Key Points:
Prayer is a spritual battlefield
Prayer walks open the territory
Binding and loosing spirits
Intercessory Prayer
Why do we talk about this when so many have already done it?
Nothing better that can be done than praying for a person or situation!
Not praying is a sin!
1 Samuel 12:23 KJV 1900
Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:
It works! Often is the only thing that will work!
James 5:16 KJV 1900
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
“I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had no where else to go!” Abraham Lincoln
Why is Intercessory Prayer so important?
Standing in the Gap
Righting a wrong
“The law of prayer is the highest law of the universe!” Vesta Mangun
Prayer is both offense and defense...
Prayer is protection
Prayer is advancing
“We cannot without Him. He will not without us.” Vesta Mangun
Ezekiel 22:30 NIV
“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.
Revelation 22:17 KJV 1900
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
Spirit AND the BRIDE say come!
“The Spirit can so powerfully persuade a soul so that soul will voluntarily yield, but the Spirit only does this through the perseverance of someone who intercedes on that soul’s behalf.” Vesta Mangun
What is intercessory prayer?
Intercede - intervene between parties with a view of reconciling differences, to mediate
Root word: cede - latin = go yield or surrender
Prefix: Inter - between or shared
Intercede = shared surrender
To be a intercessor you need; The Holy Ghost, love, patience, faith and humility.
Examples of Biblical intercessors:
Abraham (Gen 18: 22-23)
Moses (Ex 32:11-14z0
Nehemiah (Neh 1:4-11)
Jesus (Heb 8:6)
Colossians 4:12 (NIV)
Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.
KJV - “…always labouring fervently for you in prayers.”
Prayer is the place where the battle is won and lost!
Exodus 14:13–14 KJV 1900
And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.
BOTTOM LINE: You know that prayer works. You have your own stories to tell, you need to ask yourself why you are not doing it!
PRAYER WALKS
Genesis 13:14–17 KJV 1900
And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.
Look at the land, be strategic because where you walk, your kids will live!
Be specific, be intentional!
Genesis 24:40 (KJV 1900)
And he said unto me, The Lord, before whom I walk, will send his angel with thee, and prosper thy way; and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father’s house:
Exodus 23:23–30 (KJV 1900)
For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.
Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.
And ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.
There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil.
I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee.
And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee.
I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee.
By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land.
Principle:
Angels go before the church
As the church goes, angels go.
Fear falls on the enemies of God.
Land was subdued!
This makes Eph 6:10-18 real!
Ephesians 6:10–18 KJV 1900
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Matthew 16:18–19 (KJV 1900)
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
