Robert, spare yourself, slay Agag now! 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. The first king of Israel, King Saul, was told by God to utterly slay Amalek and his descendants. In blatant disobedience Saul allowed Agag, the king of the Amalekites and the best of the cattle to remain alive. The following day, Saul tried to remedy his disobedience by attempting to sacrifice the best of the cattle to the Lord. But the prophet Samuel informed Saul that because of his disobedience, his family would no longer reign over Israel, and he told Saul, "to obey is better than sacrifice." If offering the "best of the cattle" for sacrifice was a poor excuse for disobedience, its negative consequences must have paled in comparison with sparing the Amalekite King - whose infamous descendant Haman, an agagite (Esther 3:1) later rose to power seeking to destroy the entire Jewish population of Persia. If Saul had dealt with Agag as God instructed him, he would have spared his people, centuries later, from the agonizing contest with a vicious enemy who would destroy them. So it is with sin. Allow it to live and be sure it will return to slay you with more power. Don't compromise. "Small" sins lead to bigger ones, and soon enough the early footholds that are ignored will turn into strongholds which cannot be! Robert, "Take no prisoners" when dealing with sin -- seek to be rid of the little sins, so that later you will avoid the strongholds that may threaten to compromise or destroy your walk, your calling, your life, and the precious relationship that the Lord has purchased for you! Shabbat Shalom! Your family in the Lord with much agape love, George, Baht Rivka, Elianna & Obadiah Dallas, Texas
John 2:23–25 (NASB95) — 23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name, observing His signs which He was doing. 24 But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men, 25 and because He did not need anyone to testify concerning man, for He Himself knew what was in man.
The Passover and the week of Unleavened bread lasted for a period of eight days. It was cleansing the temple which coincided with the festival of unleavened bread for it was custom that all homes are to clean their houses of all leaven. I imagine this is where we get spring cleaning from.
Exodus 12:14–17 (NASB95) — 14 ‘Now this day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as a permanent ordinance. 15 ‘Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, but on the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses; for whoever eats anything leavened from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel. 16 ‘On the first day you shall have a holy assembly, and another holy assembly on the seventh day; no work at all shall be done on them, except what must be eaten by every person, that alone may be prepared by you. 17 ‘You shall also observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as a permanent ordinance.
1 Corinthians 5:6–8 (NASB95) — 6 Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough? 7 Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed. 8 Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
The things that are recorded of Jesus’ life demonstrates that Jesus was about fulfilling the Law. He himself is the fulfillment. It was He who looked to clean his Father’s house of the Leaven which was the Marketeers and those who were doing business in a place of assembled worship.
John 2:23 (NASB95) — 23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name, observing His signs which He was doing.
The cleansing of the temple caught the attention of the people. there may have been many, especially those who were fed up with having to be fleased by the religious establishment. and to see this scum chased out of the temple was a pleasing sight. But apparently Jesus turns his attention to those who have been hurt by the establishment and begin to do things which are not recorded by John.
this foreshadows the coming of the kingdom which will come after the great and terrible day in the Lord will bring healing to the people.
Isaiah 9:1–7 (NASB95) — 1 But there will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish; in earlier times He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He shall make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles. 2 The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them. 3 You shall multiply the nation, You shall increase their gladness; They will be glad in Your presence As with the gladness of harvest, As men rejoice when they divide the spoil. 4 For You shall break the yoke of their burden and the staff on their shoulders, The rod of their oppressor, as at the battle of Midian. 5 For every boot of the booted warrior in the battle tumult, And cloak rolled in blood, will be for burning, fuel for the fire. 6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.
Isaiah 61:1–3 (NASB95) — 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, Because the Lord has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners; 2 To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, 3 To grant those who mourn in Zion, Giving them a garland instead of ashes, The oil of gladness instead of mourning, The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.
Many believed in His name

this believing in His name was aorist active indicative which means at some point the people witnessed saw or heard and they accepted the fact or in the authority and the right of this Jesus doing what he was doing. They believed that he was from God as Nicodemus would comment on when he approached Jesus at night in the coming chapter. And we might all celebrate because figuritively speaking we have people walking the Isles hear and saying, “I believe in Jesus! I am saved!”
Hold on a minute
they were celebrating Jesus perhaps, but was Jesus celebrating them?
John 2:24 (NASB95) — 24 But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men,
Same word used is Pistis
Corrected translation
John 2:23–24 (NASB95) — 23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name, observing His signs which He was doing. 24 But Jesus, on His part, was Did not believe Himself to them, for He knew all men,

Jeremiah 17:9–10 (NASB95) — 9 “The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it? 10 “I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds.
A person may fool you. He who professes to be a believer may even decieve themselves into thinking that He or she and Jesus are like peas and carrots. but then that day comes when you are lost in your own disillusionment of what happened, either in your own life or the life of others.
1 John 2:18–21 (NASB95) — 18 Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. 20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
They were believing in what they were seeing. they were believing in what they were hearing but were they ready to follow this Jesus.
It is like the man on the tight rope
but when asked who wanted the first right all said no.
It was Jesus the knew the hearts of those that expressed their intentions of following Jesus but Jesus showed them their own hearts he knew thier hearts better that they knew their own hearts
Point of Doctrine: Just because you believe some facts about Jesus or even what the bible says makes you born from above.
