Call to worship
28 Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble, And He brings them out of their distresses. 29 He calms the storm, So that its waves are still. 30 Then they are glad because they are quiet; So He guides them to their desired haven. 31 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
Giving
2 that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality. 3 For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing, 4 imploring us with much urgency that we would receive the gift and the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.
Today's Text: “ No more Revenge!”
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. 41 And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.
Father in heaven, as I come to your throne today, I come as a vessel broken imperfect in every way, but you are perfect. This bible will not pass away, your judgments are right and true. your truth is not determined by my ability to walk in it. as we The truth in your words this morning we ask that you combat the fear that you will not perfect us. Help us not to trust our flesh, and to trust in the power of the spirit. in Jesus name. Amen.
Pastoral Confession:
The scripture calls me to teach the whole counsel of God’s word.
2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.
27 For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God.
the bible does not allow me to skip the areas where i have a personal struggle.
this is just one of the many burdens that pastors have to carry in the feeding of the flock of our Lord. our own sin nature, our flaws. I would covet your prayers as we embark on this Part of the scriptures today.
1. Keep your own eyes, and don’t ask anyone else for theirs.

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
Here we go again with the familiar statement, you have heard it said, but I tell you…
there is a truth here that I did not get until this week
the key word to the understanding is the word resist ἀντιστῆναι6. anthistēmi. it means not to go to court.
this comes directly from the old testament law:
24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
20 fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he has caused disfigurement of a man, so shall it be done to him.
21 Your eye shall not pity: life shall be for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
this is not to be taken care of on an individual level, rather, a victim should take their case to court.
This was no doubt done to keep vigilante ‘justice’ is often not justice at all.
the punishment must fit the crime.
This is why the Greek words means don’t take your case to court.
this is fir the sake of the gospel.
This whole issue is about grace.
personal conflict.
Personal insult.
Personal grace.
2. Givers give not out of abundance, rather, they give because they know their source is not their stuff.

40 If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. 41 And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.
As Christians we know that our provision comes not from the work that He has given us to do. (although He has given us the work and called us to do that work in a spirit of excellence. The work we are given is not our source, God is source.
So when the Jesus says don’t make some one sue you for your coat, that coat can also be the persons bed spread because clothes took so long to make it was a big deal to give them up. if he wants your coat give him your shirt as well. why?
Going the second mile is ‘killing them with kindness and worshiping the Lord in the process.

A Roman solider could compel you as a matter of being an occupying force to carry his load a mile.
Jewish sentiment was to resent this mandatory service.
yet Jesus said, if they want you to go one mile, go two. you are not broken you are built strong and in the image of the true God . Let the grace of that God empower you to do more than they thought by a full measure.
this is a decoration of praise!
3. when its your power to do so be generous.
3. when its your power to do so be generous.
be captain help a brother out. (if your a man)
QUEEN save a sister ( if you are a woman of God.)
the core of the second part of this passage ( the giving part is all about empowerment.)
Struggles don’t last always.
we should be willing to help in the struggle.
the more we have been helped the more you should be willing to help others as you where helped.
