1 Corinthians 10:6–10 NIV
6 Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.” 8 We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. 9 We should not test Christ, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes. 10 And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel.

We serve a Holy God and He wants us to be Holy.

Leviticus 11:45 KJV 1900
45 For I am the Lord that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.

Continued sin Separated us from God and invokes His wrath.

Isaiah 59:2 NIV
2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.
Isaiah 64:7 NIV
7 No one calls on your name or strives to lay hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us and have given us over to our sins.

Do not be an idolater which is a worshipper of idols.

1 Corinthians 10:7 KJV 1900
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

Israel tempted God by worshipping an idol.

Exodus 32:2–6 KJV 1900
2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me. 3 And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron. 4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the Lord. 6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

Idol worship comes in many forms today so we must be careful.

An idolater is a person that admires intensely and often blindly one that is not usually a subject of worship

Ephesians 5:1–4 KJV 1900
1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; 2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. 3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; 4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

Idolatry is a sin we should not flirt with at all.
