As we approach Ressurection Sunday
Lent is a season of preparation
We need to repare for the release of healing
last week I spoke on how to prepare yourself to be used by God to bring healing
Today I want to switch perpectives.
If you require healing, what are the steps you need to take to receive your healing.
Today we will look at the essentials, and next week we will go deeper into what can be holding back your healing if you’ve already done everything wer’re going to talk about today
preamble
God has provided the means for each and everyone of us to be healed.
this was done not only through the cross
but also the events leading up to the cross
Specifically the beating that Jesus received
The prophet Isaiah recorded
Isaiah 53:5 NLT
But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.
Jesus fulfilled Isaiahs prophesy by taking the lashes
Matthew
Matthew 27:25–26 NASB95
And all the people said, “His blood shall be on us and on our children!” Then he released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified.
John
John 19:1 NASB95
Pilate then took Jesus and scourged Him.
The Bible doesn’t tell us how many lashes Jesus received,
Paul tells us
2 Corinthians 11:24 NASB95
Five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine lashes.
Deuteronomy 25:1–3 NASB95
“If there is a dispute between men and they go to court, and the judges decide their case, and they justify the righteous and condemn the wicked, then it shall be if the wicked man deserves to be beaten, the judge shall then make him lie down and be beaten in his presence with the number of stripes according to his guilt. “He may beat him forty times but no more, so that he does not beat him with many more stripes than these and your brother is not degraded in your eyes.
Whipping a person 39 times was the standard practice in NT times 40 was the max limit
but this was a roman flogging
The romans’s believed 40 lashes would kill the man and therefore be a death sentence.
in order for it not to be a death sentence it was capped at 39.
Jesus bore the stripes to provide the means for us to be healed from every sickness diesease or infirmity
To make a way for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.
If you want to know whether or not its God’s will, simply ask the question:
Does this sickness or infirmity exist in heaven?
If it doesn’t exit in heaven, where God’s will is fulfilled and carried out,
then God does not want it to exist on earth.
Not only does he not want it to exist on earth
God actually did something about it.
The Father sent His Son to be beaten for our diseases.
Jesus paid the price so you wouldn’t have to.
So why are we suffering from sickness and disease if Jesus took it on himself?
Well I beleive we still have a part to play.
Jesus did His part, now its our turn.

Salavation

Just like Salvation where Jesus died and rose again so our sins could be forgiven
and its God’s will as Peter records
2 Peter 3:9 NASB95
The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
If God is holding back Jesus’ return waiting for people to come to repentance
its abundantly clear there is a role for each person to repent so they can receive forgiveness of their sins
Jesus did His part, now its our turn to do our part and Make disciples of all the nations!
now back to healing...
Jesus provided the means for healing by the scourging He bore for us.
Now what is our part.
How do we prepare for healing.

A. Ask

James 4:2–3 NASB95
You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.
You don’t have because you don’t Ask
What’s your motivation?

B. Believe

Hebrews 11:6 NASB95
And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
Mark 11:24 NASB95
“Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.
How do you increase belief?

Read scripture on healing

I know of over 100 verses on healing
Exodus 15:26 NASB95
And He said, “If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, am your healer.”
Psalm 103:2–3 NASB95
Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits; Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases;
Luke 5:15 NASB95
But the news about Him was spreading even farther, and large crowds were gathering to hear Him and to be healed of their sicknesses.
meditate on the ones that God highlights to you
don’t just read them
claim them for yourself

2. look for testimonies of people who have already been healed of what you are going through

youtube has many videos of testimonies from people being healed.
when you watch these tell yourself. God did it for them He will do it for me!

3. Ask God to increase your belief in His will

Mark 9:24 NASB95
Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.”

C. Call on others

James 5:14 NASB95
Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;
Too many people believe is right to suffer in silence
Jesus never wants you to do that
the devil always wants you to do that.
satan wants you to feel isolated and alone in your trouble
God wants you to know you loved and supported when you go through difficult times
Matthew 18:20 NASB95
“For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst.”
2 Corinthians 13:11 ESV
Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you.

D. Repent of your sins

James 5:15–16 NASB95
and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.
Sickness exist because of sin.
It never existed before sin entered the world
without sin there can be no sickness
The difficult part is that you can be sick because your sin, others sins, ancestory sins, enviromental sins
We will take a deeper look at this next week
Pray and ask Holy Spirit to reveal the source of the illlness.
This is of great importance in persitent or reoccuring sickness
once you know the source you can repent of the cause.
we have Jesus dealing with this about a boy who was born blind
John 9:2 NASB95
And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?”

E. Never give up seeking healing

John 9:3 NASB95
Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.
Sometimes its not about sin, but rather God showing His power at the oportune time
There’s an interesting story in the book of Acts

Healing at the beautiful gate

Acts 3:2–8 NASB95
And a man who had been lame from his mother’s womb was being carried along, whom they used to set down every day at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, in order to beg alms of those who were entering the temple. When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he began asking to receive alms. But Peter, along with John, fixed his gaze on him and said, “Look at us!” And he began to give them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene—walk!” And seizing him by the right hand, he raised him up; and immediately his feet and his ankles were strengthened. With a leap he stood upright and began to walk; and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.
Its an amazing story of how the disciples carried on Jesus work of healing.
He was a well known cripple.
My question is.
How many times did Jesus pass him by?
We’re told he was at the temple every day begging for alms and he was crippled from birth
Jesus would have passed him everyday He went to the temple?
But His healing was left for Peter to show the nation that His disciples could do what Jesus did!
However we cannot allow this possiblity to excuse us to become apathetic.
Yes certain healings are set for certain times,
but we should be ever so persitent in seeking healing in every occasion.
We don’t know the time so we always assume the time is now when we pray!
Ephesians 6:18 NASB95
With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,
1 Thessalonians 5:17 NASB95
pray without ceasing;
Widow and unjust judge
Luke 18:1–8 NASB95
Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart, saying, “In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect man. “There was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me legal protection from my opponent.’ “For a while he was unwilling; but afterward he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her legal protection, otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.’ ” And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge said; now, will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them? “I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”
Some people feel pray once and then beleive.
I say believe and continue praying till you get what your asking for!
fervent prayer is not a lack of faith.
You may do all these things and still not be healed.
But this is where I beleive we start.
Next week we will go deeper for when these steps are not enough.
Closing prayer
