1 Corinthians 7:1-2

Introduction

The Bible remains the foremost authority on how we should behave ourselves in a manner that is pleasing to God. But sadly today many are turning away from the principles of the word of God to find the help that they need on the internet, from television, and from someone's best selling book. If we are really the people of God, then we must find our answers to pleasing God from God Himself. He has been so gracious as to give us all that, as the Bible puts it, "pertains to life and godliness". According to that same Bible, God wants us to be what He calls whole; meaning that we are not to be defficient in any areas of our lives. Rather we are to find our sufficiency in Him! We do this by drawing closer to Him and spending the necessary time in His presence and in His Word so that we will know what is His design for our lives.

Before You Get To Know Anyone Else, Know Yourself

You must learn to enjoy the wholesomeness of the single life. Don't rush into anything, but rather the word of the day is "sober". The worst thing in the world to do is to try to take on too much at one time. This type of error lessens your effectiveness and increases your chances of making mistakes. And some mistakes are too drastic and not easily reversable, if at all.

  • Young men and women who are just entering into life, already moving beyond their experiences.
    1. nowadays, you need to know what it is like to pay bills and have obligations.
    2. you need to get used to paying your own car note before you take on someone elses as well.
    3. you need some experiences.
  • Do you know that you need some experiences in life?
    1. and by that I don't mean carnal or inappropriate experiences.
    2. but you need to know what you want before you try to supply somebody else's selfish fantasies.
    3. it is beyond me why so many young people can't see the momentary excitement as fleeting.
    4. a wise person once admonished that we should never make a permanent decision based on a temporary situation.
    5. don't ruin your life for someone who won't even be around too much longer anyway.
    6. before you try to know anyone else, know yourself.
    7. I know people who graduated and chose the college that they were going to attend based on which college their boyfriend or girlfriend was attending.
    8. life is so funny now until sometimes you have to forget about everybody else's dreams and go after your own, because nobody else is going to put their lives on hold for you, so it's up to you to make sure that you get all you can and can all you get!

Being By Myself Doesn't Make Me Incomplete

There is a certain wholesomeness that can be obtained, even when you are by yourself.

  • "1" is a whole number
    1. and just because you may be single doesn't mean that you are a fraction of a person.
    2. don't feel intimidated because others are pairing up all around you.
    3. according to the scriptures, marriage isn't for everyone anyway.
    4. so

This Is Your Time With God

  • Singleness is your time to spend in the presence of God. Paul says in the Book of Corinthians that he that is single mindeth the things of God. Whereas, he that is married mindeth the things of the world.
    1. spend this time wisely.
    2. this is the time to lay the foundation for the rest of your life.
    3. allow God to make you whole.
    4. you can pray all day and commune with God.
    5. you can go out and witness as much as is permitted.
  • But when you get married, you must of necessity mind the things of the family that you started.
    1. for if a man won't provide for his own family, he is worse than an infidel.
    2. when you get married, you can't just up and go pass out tracts all day without consent.
    3. you can't just go to every revival in town and out of town when you have a family at home.
    4. because some people don't understand that.
    5. and they'll be angered by the fact that you are out of town at a revival that you are not even preaching at when they are at home with your two babies struggling all by themselves.

You Didn't Complete Me, You Complimented Me

God made me whole, and now that I am whole, I am not in a rush to do anything.
