Introduction

Acts 2:42 KJV 1900
42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Body

I’ve asked a few times now, “What does it mean to be Apostolic?”
According to this verse, it may be more than simply “continuing steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine.”
It’s fellowship
It’s breaking of bread
It’s in prayers
Acts 2:42–47 KJV 1900
42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
The context here was that they were together. Not separate
Hebrews 10:25 KJV 1900
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
As we get closer and closer to Jesus’ second coming, we ought to be assembling together more and more, but our trend has been to assemble together less and less.
This is not the plan of God. This is not the will of God.
And so, I’m exhorting us this evening. Encouraging us to move forward and not stay encamped here.
In the Old Testament God would tell the nation of Israel to pack up camp and move forward.
No reason was given by God as to why they were moving
As far as I can tell, Israel never asked God why either
They simply packed up camp and moved to where God led them
Allow God to have that same liberty with His people today
It is in my heart to make our Tuesday evening prayer service equal to Sundays and Wednesdays in accordance with my present understanding of scripture
Not immediately, but soon.
I’m praying about it and I feel like this is where God wants to take us
I am considering making attendance at this service necessary for church membership
Excuses
DISCLAIMER: I haven’t, and will not ever resort to guilting anyone into serving God.
I am here to encourage you to move forward in God
I want us to expand the way we think towards the Kingdom of God, and toward God’s ability and willingness to move obstacles aside so that we’re free to accomplish His will
I am here to lead you forward from the front, not to push everyone forward from the rear.
I never was a very good garrison soldier. I excelled in the field.
“I don’t want to go”
First of all, your desire is not required, only your obedience.
Pray for desire. Pray to conform to His image.
“I need to save money”
Is it possible to save money somewhere else?
Could God provide you the money if you’re accomplishing His will?
“It’s too far to drive this that many times a week”
Pray that God gives you a home somewhere closer
Pray that God gives you greater desire to serve Him
“I have to work”
This I consider to be a legitimate reason
But even here, is there something God can do for us?
I’m praying that God give you a better job AND free you to attend all services
Is God able? Is God willing to see His will accomplished?
Why am I excited?
Prayer works!
There are actual, spiritual results being obtained from our prayers
Takes time for spiritual realities to manifest in the physical
The hornet’s nest was for a long time riled up
Now it really feels in the spirit like the enemy is beginning to weaken. To lose ground.
There has been a significant spiritual shift that has taken place since we started focused praying for La Crosse.
Something has changed in the way the enemy is engaging us. Engaging me.
