[26-28] Suddenly, unexpectedly, without notice, Jesus stood in the midst of the disciples. Again He eased their shock by giving that familiar greeting, “peace be unto you.” But take note what Jesus die: He turned immediately to confront Thomas.
What does that action reveal about Jesus?
That he knew all about Thomas’ unbelief and demands. He used the very same words that Thomas had demanded.
What does this teach us about Jesus that applies to us?
Jesus knows the heart of every person. All of their despair, doubts, fears, hope, love. He knows where and when to strike at a person’s heart.
Jesus warned and called for belief. This seems to imply that Thomas had been walking down a dangerous road. The disciples had witnessed to him time and again, but he had refused.
To not believe in Christ, or to be Christ-less means to have no hope and to be without God in this world.
He was throughly convinced now that Jesus was alive and appearing in their midst was enough for him to beleive.
[29] The important thing to notice is that Jesus accepted worship as God. If He were only a man, He should have refused it. But Thomas’ faith was not the kind that was most pleasing to the most pleasing to the Lord. It was belief based on sight. More blessed are those who have not seen and yet believed.
The surest evidence is the Word of God. If God says a thing, we honor Him by believing it; but we dishonor Him by demanding additional evidence.
We should believe simply because He said it and because He cannot lie or be mistaken.
Numbers 6:24–26 ESV
