If you turn on the TV and watch for just a moment You’ll see we are living in uncertian times and uncertain days
With wars and rumors of wars
Food and gas prices through the roof inflation is at an all time, stock market is down.
The world is in chaos.
We have lived in a country that has prospered for many years because of the foundation this country is built on
As a nation we have turned our backs on God.
We have turned our backs on the things of God.
We have played with sin for far to long.
We are killing babies by the thousands and celebrating it
We are calling right wrong and wrong right.
As a nation we have traded the truth about God for a lie and dumbed down sin and it’s consequence before a holy God.
We are living in uncertian times.
Where do you go and where do you look in uncertian times?
A Upward Look
In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple.
King Uzziah started out strong.
He took the throne at the age of 16.
He lead Judah for 52 years.
The bible says he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD
He was taught to fear God and seek him and God made his way prosper
Uzziah was a strong military Leader and his fame had spread even to the boarder of Egypt.
But pride came and Uzziah was unfaithful to the LORD
2 Chronicles 26:16 “But when he was strong, he grew proud, to his destruction. For he was unfaithful to the Lord his God and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.”
Isaiah 6:1 “In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple.”
The death of the king has brought uncertianty to the kingdom of Judah and uncertianty in the new king that will sit on the throne.
I want to tell you that the throne of Judah Judah maybe in transition
The thrones of the kings of earth may be in transition but the throne of God is never in transition
Church I believe we are standing on the edge of a new heaven and a new earth were Jesus is king forever.
where do you go and where do you look in these uncertian times
Isaiah had a upward look.
Isaiah 6:1 “In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple.”
Isaiah was at the temple and saw the LORD seat on his throne high and lifted up
he saw God and his Greatness
His royal authorithy and power
He saw him as sovreign over all creation
The train of his robe filled the temple
If the train of his rob filled the temple can you imagen how big our God is
God pulled the curtian back so that Isaiah could see a Sovereign God in uncertin days.
Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of his glory!”
Isaiah saw God’s holiness
God is acompanied by 2 seraphim the word seraphim means burning one.
The use of their wings to cover their face suggest that even the heavenly beings arent worthy to look upon God and his holiness.
With two of the wings they cover thier feet which would cover their body for modesty
With the other two they flew calling out holy holy holy
Church we have a holy God that’s sovereign over your cercumstance and your situation.
You may be hear today and be walking through hell in your life
you may have a situation that’s completly out of your control but none of the things you face are out of God’s control
The more I see God and his holiness the more I’ll see my sinfulness
But as long as we think there is a human solution to our problem there is little chance that we see God as the solution
as long as i think i can solve my problem with a little help from God Then i am the soveriegn and God is the servent.
Isaiah had a problem he couldn’t fix.
Isaiah had a inward look
Isaiah 6:4-5 “And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!””
Isaiah saw his sinfulness in light of a holy God
When we see gods holiness god always gives us a look at our sinfulness
when we see our sin the way God sees our sin That when we change
Why does Isaiah say that his lips are unclean why not his heart?
the lips are evidence of whats in the heart.
Matthew 15:18-19 “But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.”
After what he had heard the seraphim cry Holy, holy, holy, Isaiah knows that his lips have been used to praise himself , put others down and could never be used in such holy service.
James 3:9-12 “With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.”
There are some of you in this room that God wants to cleans your lips so that he can use you for his Glory
I have often asked God why would you pick such a sinful man to preach your word?
Jesus first encounter with Peter went like this
Luke 5:8 “But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.””
It’s the holiness of God and his grace that make Godly men
Lenorard Ravenhill said this “The greatest mirical that God can do today is to take an unholy man out of an unholy world and make him holy, then put him back into an unholy world and keep him holy in it.
Isaiah 6:6-7 “Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.””
Notice The seraphim took the coal from the alter It was where the sacrifical lamb would have been offered
Isaiah was a prophet in need of forgiveness He’s overwhelmed by the holiness of God
Some of you in this room are Chritians that stand in need of forgiveness
But shame, pride, and a fear of rejection keep you frozen in your pew
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Isaiah had a outward look
Isaiah 6:8-9 “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” And he said, “Go, and say to this people: “ ‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’”
Just as Isaiah Got the call we have a call and a commision
Matthew 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”
In the call that God has given you there will be pepole That hearden there hearts and won’t recive what the Lord says
Isaiahs preaching wouldn’t be succesful.
Isaiah 6:10-13 “Make the heart of this people dull, and their ears heavy, and blind their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.” Then I said, “How long, O Lord?” And he said: “Until cities lie waste without inhabitant, and houses without people, and the land is a desolate waste, and the Lord removes people far away, and the forsaken places are many in the midst of the land. And though a tenth remain in it, it will be burned again, like a terebinth or an oak, whose stump remains when it is felled.” The holy seed is its stump.”
The Lord doesn’t do patch work he purifies.
he cuts down and burns and removes anything not needed in our lives
the process is long, hard and painful.
God’s not going to patch up areas of your life so you can stay the same.
he wants you to see him as holy and allow his holiness to cleans you of sin so he can purify you for the call he has on your life.
