Intro

TS: Chapter 12 is written as a song of praise to the Messiah. It is a song which will be sung by His people when the Messiah accomplishes His mission (discussed in ch 11).
RS: This song of praise serves as and example and pattern for our worship today!

Thanksgiving to the Lord (12:1-3)

For Forgiving Them ((12:1)

EX: Messiah is worthy of Thanksgiving
Isaiah 12:1 ESV
You will say in that day: “I will give thanks to you, O Lord, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, that you might comfort me.
Forgiveness of sin is an amazing motivator to thank the Lord.
Israel had presumed upon God’s mercy far too long
They were destined to go into captivity.
They were ALSO destined to come home and be a nation again!
God’s ultimate forgiveness was decreed even as He decreed judgment.
His anger would be turned away
He would comfort them
This is a beautiful picture!
IL: Parent’s discipline. It hurts, It corrects, It doesn’t feel good
followed up by a hug- it is done in love. Forgiveness comes even as discipline comes.
God forgave and comforted them.

For Strength and Deliverance (12:2-3)

Isaiah 12:2–3 ESV
“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.
God will be praised when He has delivered and strengthened them
God is my salvation- I will trust and not fear
He is thanked for delivering them out of captivity
He has set them free, brought them home, and established them as a nation again.
God will deliver them from the spiritual consequences of sin too
Because of forgiveness, their sin is gone!
Lord God is my strength and song
They will recognize God has done this by His might and by lending them strength
similar to Ps 118:14
Psalm 118:14 ESV
The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.
Exodus 15:2 ESV
The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
Worship is the natural response to God’s work of deliverance!
AP: We too can sing this song!
We are forgiven
Salvation- He has taken our place and justified us!
our sins are washed away
If He never did anything else for us, salvation is enough to bring us to a lifetime followed by an eternity of worship
Ongoing-
1 John 1:9 ESV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
NEVER forget the grace of forgiveness
He continues to wash away our sin
We need the cleansing work of Christ to keep us righteous
No sin past nor present will be upon us when we enter eternity
Isaiah 1:18 ESV
“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.
We are delivered and strengthened
He has set us free from sin
we no longer have to live as slaves to sin
Our sin no longer holds dominion over us
We have a choice to serve Christ or the Flesh
He also strengthens us
Give us grace to live for Him
Keeps us going when we grow weak
empowers and enables us to choose Him over the flesh
The result:
We are solely to blame when we sin
1 COr 10:13
1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
WE OWE God, BIG TIME
Thank Him and praise Him for forgiveness, deliverance, and strength

Testimony to the World (Is 12:4-6)

Isaiah 12:4–6 ESV
And you will say in that day: “Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted. “Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be made known in all the earth. Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.”
After the Day of the Lord when Christ returns to rule here on Earth, the people will praise God for what He has done and testify to the nations of God’s work and presence among them.
This was God’s purpose for Israel from the beginning!
They were to follow God and walk in His ways
He would have kept His promises and blessed them
The world would see and hear Israel’s testimony and be drawn to God.
When God blesses His people, the world can see and take note
I think of the book of Daniel as an example
Multiple times God worked on behalf of His people, and pagan kings said, God is really God
When Daniel interpreted Nebuchadnezzar's dream
Daniel 2:47 ESV
The king answered and said to Daniel, “Truly, your God is God of gods and Lord of kings, and a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this mystery.”
When God delivered the 3 Hebrew children:
Daniel 3:28–29 ESV
Nebuchadnezzar answered and said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him, and set aside the king’s command, and yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any god except their own God. Therefore I make a decree: Any people, nation, or language that speaks anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be torn limb from limb, and their houses laid in ruins, for there is no other god who is able to rescue in this way.”
When God shut the lion’s mouths so Daniel wasn’t harmed in the Lion’s den
Daniel 6:26–27 ESV
I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God, enduring forever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end. He delivers and rescues; he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, he who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions.”
There are many examples of GOD’s work on Israel’s behalf
They were to testify of those works before the nations so all may know that He is God
AP: We still should testify of God’s mighty works!
Matthew 5:13–16 ESV
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
That is part our prayer time
That is part of our singing
Love Lifted Me
I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore
very deeply stained with sin, sinking to rise no more
But the Master of the Sea, heard my despairing cry
from the waters lifted me, now saved am I.
Amazing Love
I’m forgiven, because your were forsaken
I’m accepted, You were condemned
I’m alive and well, Your Spirit lives in me.
Because You died and rose again
We can have people share testimonies throughout the service
Your story of God saving you, delivering you, and/or strengthening you is valid worship!
Don’t keep it to yourself!
