Introduction - Me not walking with the Lord.
Sometimes a passage of Scripture tells a personal story. That’s what
1 Timothy 1:12-16 does for me:
12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service,
13 even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief;
14 and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus.
15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all.
16 Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life.
12. Strengthened me, Found me Faithful, Put me in Service
13. Even though!!! Blasphemer, Persecutor - SINNER! Mercy
I did not act in ignorance - Yet He did not punish me as I deserved - just the OPPOSITE!!
14. Grace of our Lord is more abundant. LOVE!
15. Jesus definitely saves sinners. I am not foremost but bad enough.
16. Mercy shows the perfect patience of Jesus. This patience shows me as an example for those who would believe. I can’t say I am the best example but I am an example. When Jesus turns someone from death to life He makes that person an example.
We serve an awesome God and I am very thankful that He redeemed me from the pit and has put me into service in this church that I might be an example to someone. Only in His strength will I be able to remain faithful and worthy of this calling.
1 Timothy 1:17 (NASB95)
17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
