Revenge: THE TRAP
Revenge: THE TRAP
17 Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable.
19 Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the Lord.
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
12 There is only one true Lawgiver and Judge, the One who has the power to save and destroy—so who do you think you are to judge your neighbor?
9 Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you [yourselves] may not be judged. Look! The Judge is [already] standing at the very door.
SomeOne Say Same Grace
19 “Anyone who injures another person must be dealt with according to the injury inflicted—
23 But if there is further injury, the punishment must match the injury: a life for a life,
24 an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, a foot for a foot,
25 a burn for a burn, a wound for a wound, a bruise for a bruise.
Look how He Addresses new covenant believers
38 “You have heard the law that says the punishment must match the injury: ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’
39 But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also.
40 If you are sued in court and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat, too.
41 If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles.
42 Give to those who ask, and don’t turn away from those who want to borrow.
34 While they were nailing Jesus to the cross, he prayed over and over, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they’re doing.” The soldiers, after they crucified him, gambled over his clothing.
13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
32 But instead be kind and affectionate toward one another. Has God graciously forgiven you? Then graciously forgive one another in the depths of Christ’s love.
Could you imagine how many mothers haven’t forgiven their children’s father because he never came back and admitted he did her wrong?
Could you imagine how many fathers haven’t forgiven their father for not being in his life, yet he does the same thing to his kids?
22 But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness,
23 Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge].
22 But the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit within you is divine love in all its varied expressions: joy that overflows, peace that subdues, patience that endures, kindness in action, a life full of virtue, faith that prevails, gentleness of heart, and strength of spirit. Never set the law above these qualities, for they are meant to be limitless.
Home Work: Study each expression of Love, find the best definition that will help you answer these questions
Do You Possess The Fruit of the Holy Spirit?
(if No move to next one) If yes explain how you see every expression operating in your life
2. Which part of the Fruit do you possess? Tell me why you believe it.
3. Why do you feel you don’t possess those other parts?
4. What do you feel is hindering you from receiving the Fruit of The Spirit.
5. If you don’t Possess all of them Do you actually have The fruit of the spirit? (Proof text it)
Bitterness is Unfulfilled Revenge (Francis Frangipane)
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
10 Then many will stop following me and fall away, and they will betray one another and hate one another.
26 But don’t let the passion of your emotions lead you to sin! Don’t let anger control you or be fuel for revenge, not for even a day.
20 Look at the obvious fruit of their lives and ministries, and then you’ll know whether they are true or false.”
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
