PRECIOUS PROMISES FROM GOD’S WORD
A Biblical Picture of God’s Promises
Young Adults Sunday School Class – First Baptist, Center Point
February 11, 2007
Text: Romans 8:28
Topic: A Promise for Understanding
Someone has said “Romans 8:28 is the easiest verse to quote to someone else and the most difficult verse to accept for ourselves.”
A verse of security. Changes the why question into the who question. It directs me to the one who gives to me stability in life.
Emphasize the words “know” and “good.” The same Paul who wrote:
Ephesians 5:20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; (KJV)
1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. (KJV)
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. (KJV)
Paul knew that everything in life that happens to you is either permitted or planned.
I. OUR RELATIONSHIP TO GOD
A. It is a Positive Relationship, “we know” see verse 26
v. 26 illustrates the insufficiency of Paul
v. 28 illustrates the all sufficiency of God
B. It is a Personal Relationship “to those who love God”
This is a promise to all who love God. Williams Translation: “to those who keep on loving God.”
C. It is a Privileged Relationship “to those who are called”
Called to a relationship with God: God finds me, believes me, encourages me.
II. OUR REALIZATION OF GOD
A. His Providence “God causes all things..”
Not an apathetic God, but an active God.
A productive God not a pathetic God.
B. His Perspective, “God causes all things to work together for good”
Illustration of baking a cake. German Chocolate cake.
C. His Purpose, “called according to His purpose”
“called” means we have accepted the call.
“purpose” to lay down in the presence of others.
