We have looked at the holiness of God. How He is great, set apart, glorious. Once we have a proper view of who God is, we can begin to look at who we are.
We must understand that the slightest bit of sin, is cosmic treason against a Holy God. One who doesn’t wink at sin, or look at it as something small and insignificant. One who feels indignation towards sin on a daily basis.
1 Corinthians 15:20-22, 45-49
What we see here is Paul contrasting two different covenants that God has made. This is why Paul is making a distinction between Jesus and Adam.
When we are speaking of covenants we must realizing that when God makes a covenant with someone, He is making a covenant with all the descendants of that person.
Abrahamic Covenant was with the descendants of Abraham.
Davidic Covenant with the descendants of David.
The first is the covenant with Adam. We are all in a covenant with him, because we all descendants of Him.
This is why v.21 we are told that “by one man came death” and v.22 “In Adam all die.”
Romans 5:12
12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—
Sin entered through one man and spread to all.
Why is this taking place, because we are all in a covenant relationship under our covenant head, Adam.

The effects that take place from this are that we are all born with a sinful nature.
Psalm 51:5
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.
This is a psalm of David after he has commit an atrocious sin.
He was brought forth in iniquity… this doesn’t mean that his mother was a sinner for giving birth to him, but even while in the womb, he already had a sinful nature that would cause him to sin.
Jeremiah 17:9
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?
We are told that our heart, our very core is sick, is twisted.
Anoosh- incurably wicked.
This is what a sinful nature means.
Our wickedness consumes every aspect of our lives, and we are unable to cure ourselves from it.
God has given us a free will, but mankind will always choose what is opposed to God, rather than to follow God.
We will always follow our greatest desire.
At the core of our being, we are sick and don’t desire Him.
Therefore in and of ourselves will never choose to follow God.
Proverbs 20:9
9 Who can say, “I have made my heart pure; I am clean from my sin”?
NO ONE
None can make themselves pure, or right. Freeing them form sin.
For 1, in sin we don’t desire to be free from it.
2, we are incapable of freeing ourselves.
Ecclesiastes 7:20
20 Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.
How did Solomon know?
Did Solomon question every person on earth and everyone who would ever live so that he knew that no one ever sins?
The wisdom of God had revealed to him the character of man. So he knew, in the character of man. Everyone chooses to sin.

How far does this sin nature reach?
A phrase the reformers used was total depravity.
It doesn’t mean that people are as evil as they could possibly be, even Hitler was probably nice to a couple of people.
Every aspect of our lives.
Isaiah 64:6
6 We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
Everything that people do, God looks at the intention of the heart.
When we are doing something, even something good with the wrong motivation, God see’s it as polluted, defiled, evil.
For our intentions are for ourselves, not towards God.
For the glory of God, is the only reason for us to do anything.
In our sin nature, where our hearts detest the things of God. We don’t want to do things for His glory. So all things that we do, are filthy rags.
People trying to earn their salvation, be a good person. It’s good for nothing if our motivation isn’t to showcase the glory, the holiness of God.
This is why it is so important for us to understand how Holy, how glorious our God truly is!!

How do we find a fix?!
Oh retched people who we are, who will save us from this life of SIN!!
Ezekiel 36:26-27
26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.
Here is God’s fix. He removes that heart of stone.
That heart that didn’t desire Him at all.
He gives us a new heart. A heart that desires Him.
Not because of anything we have done, for we wouldn’t do anything for Him with our heart that was desperately wicked.
This act is regeneration! The act of being made alive! What the KJV calls quickening.
We come and ask Him into our hearts because God has already given us a new heart that desires God to live in it.
This is why we say that salvation is all of Grace, and all of God.
The New Covenant

v.22
This is why, in Christ, we shall live.
We were under the covenant of Adam, in bondage to sin for we were descendants of Adam, locked into that covenant.
The second Adam (Jesus) came to give us life, to make us new.
When we have faith in Jesus, we are transferred from the covenant of Adam, to the covenant with Christ.
Adam failed and brought death.
Jesus lived a perfect life for us.
When we are in the new Covenant with Jesus through faith in Him, He has paid for our sin, and He has given us His righteousness.
Making us right with Him, not because of what we have done, but because of the marvelous grace of God.
May we bring glory to His Holy name for all He has done.
