What do I want them to do? Living in God’s rhythm, Living with God’s Priorities/Commands, Living by the Spirit.

ME/WE

Have you ever had a time in your life when you said “YES” to something you should have said “NO” to?

You knew God said No, or your spouse God was using your SPOUSE to say you shouldn’t do it…some of you are saying yeah of course I said yes to being a Lions fan years ago (and that you knew it in your bones…and it wasn’t a bad thing, a sin thing, but it wasn’t good for you at the moment.

- Maybe it was a time that you said yes to getting together with someone from church they needed you, but at this moment you needed to say because you had other things you needed to say yes to

Or it was a phone call or text message that someone sent you.

And you knew you should not have picked up the phone because you had other things or you needed to say yes to

Or maybe now that Covid is ending or appears to be ending people are saying we should start up that ministry, but now becuase of Covid there is no WE, it is YOU, and GOD is saying YOU do not have time to do it, it will drain, you but people are saying we have to do it, and you know this THE PEOPLE WHO USED TO LEAD ARE NOT HERE, so if you you say YES, you are saying YES TO LEAD it and it means you will being saying NO to something else that God wants you to do.

Gal 1 preasure to please people, but we not called to please people, love them, but we are to be a God pleaser

ANYBODY BEEN THERE?

The inverse is true....we said NO WHEN WE SHOULD HAVE SAID YES.

We said no to getting together with our family or a friend , when we should have said yes.

Your friend or daughter said lets watch the Ohio State game together, go to a movie, or grab a bite to eat…and we say no I got more church work to do

YOUR SOUL NEEDS IT

Saying no being with God to do the work of God

Or God is saying I want you to be Mary right not, but

We have all been here and will struggle not to be here?

HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN YOU SAY YES when you should have said no? Or no when you should have said yes.

When we say yes to work when I said yes to the ministry idea or meeting with that person ....are we happy, I am so full of the Spirit, full of JOY, I am so glad I mad this decision!!

YOU FEEL ANGRY, MAD, BITTERNESS, RESENTMENT, REGRET (FOR NOT DOING THAT THING), “I can’t believe I am doing this, grrrr!!!” (we might not say it out loud) mad externally, mad internally, DUMB, STUPID “how can I be so stupid” “i wasted so much time”

AT times we take it out on others

IT IS SOUL CRUSHING, SUCKING THE LIFE OUT OF YOU

Anybody have those moments that you are doing well and then the bottom drops out

And if you do it long enough, what will happen is what happened to me after my first year of ministry BURNOUT that lead to a season where I battle of anxiety of depression.

The path we are headed down is not the straight and narrow that leads to life but the path that leads to destruction.

I have been there after a year in a half into ministry

The catalyst for it was I didn’t say no when I should have said yes and no when I should have said no.

And many times I was going at a speed that at times I was not able to hear the voice of the Lord to know what to say yes and no too.

Anybody been there?

BUT THE OPPOSITE IS TRUE WHEN WE SAY YES TO THE RIGHT THINGS, THAT GOD WANT US TO SAY YES TO TEHRE IS LIFE, PEACE, JOY, WHOLENESS, SHALOM, FRUIT

This is what is at stake

TENSION

The question is are they things we can say yes to that will rejuvenate our soul?

Yes, there are several things I can say but today I will cover two things that when we YES to these two things they will bring rejuvenation to our soul

What are the things TWO THINGS we need to say yes to that we need to say YES to that will lead to are souls being refreshed, rejuivated

What are those three things?

We yes to that will help us say yes and no to things is to live according to God’s created weekly rhythm for our lives

What is that Rhythmn?

God says to us 6 days you shall work (vocationally, personally, on house projects, run errands, etc.) but on the 7th day you are to SABBATH (which means stopping)

I know for many of us our Sabbath is not Sunday

We are to Sabbot, we are to stop, stop from what

What are to stop from?

Playing card games, having fun withe our family and friends, boards games, watching TV, going walks in nature

Some of us grew up that way

No, we are to stop from WORKING, laboring vocational and non-vocational labor…God’s plan for us not to stop working vocational so we can work on house projects.

This day we do not work on our sermon

Take church phone calls, you know when Bill calls it is not going to be a minute and it stealing time from you family

Open our email quickly

Catch up on that one thing house wise or work (there will always be more to do, so even when we say, I will Sabbath after I get that done, but what happens?

It is a day set apart for the Lord, where we cease from working

(I know I am preaching to the choir…I am 40 years old and you have preached sermons on this better than me)

(But it is also us choir who are the worst statistically speaking who are bad at this

THREE FEARS the enemy tho

MAYBE YOU CAN RELATE TO WHY DID NOT LIVE IN GOD WAYS OF A WEEKLY RHYTMN

1.

Because one of our tendencies is to be people pleasers, we love our people and want to shepherd them well, but we people please, which is a manipulation and of lover....we are to be God pleasures and not people pleasures

2. If I don’t do ____ it will not happen....Which often get translated to if I don’t do ___ (past my limits) this ministry will not grow..... God will not come through for me (I was not trusting in the …and rarely did I questions at times with stuff past my limits?

God should I do this?

(it is good thing so it has to be God)

Promise of Scirpture Psalm 127:1-2

3. Identity tied to work, when our work looks good we feel good, I over worked so people would say I am awesome

Instead of my identity in Christ

Pastor, elder, leader the size of of your church does not reflect the size of God’s love for you

What God created rhythm does for us

This sets a beginning boundary of knowing what days I can say yes to work things and what days

When Bill calls on our Sabbath we don’t answer

When the house project is looking at us we SAY not today

Not only does the SABBATH GIVE US HELP OF WHAT TO SAY YES and NO TOO

WE NEED THE SABBATH

THE HEART OF THE SABBATH is about

Is worship to our God

And our renewal

The Sabbath is about renewing us mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, (when we skip the Sabbath we are skipping being renewed)

This is Jesus point in Mark

(you couldn’t heal on the Sabbath according to the Mishnah unless it was life or death situation)

sums up the principle: ‘If a man has a pain in his throat they may drop medicine into his mouth on the sabbath, since there is doubt whether life is in danger, and whenever there is doubt whether life is in danger this overrides the sabbath.’

Jesus is saying you are missing the POINT of the SABBATH, it is about healing, renewal…not about heavy weights.

The Sabbath is about RENEWAL AND HEALING

How many us have to come to worship on the or our Sabbath Sabbath worried, heavy laden, sorrowful but you left RENEWED?

The Sabbath is about Renewal

It Renews our mind (the Word of God comes and renews our stinking thinking)

It renews our Spirit (we sing praises to the Lord and our Soul lifts)

It renews our physical bodies (our bodies recover)

Friends God has given us the gift in the Sabbath, it is for our good)

God says open the gift

Say YES to the weekly rhythmn, it will help you say Yes and NO to things

And it is good for you SOUL

Your church needs it, your family needs you to rest,

BEFORE we move on, let’s pump the brakes

We rest 1 day we work 6

Does this mean that all we do is work on our work days?

Work from when we get up until we go to bed?

NO

If all we did was work, who would get edged out?

Not only that, if we work from when we wake up to when we sleep we will have not time for GOD (we may be doing the WORK of GOD being a Marth, but being a Mary gets edged out), FRIENDS, or FAMILY....is this what has in mind....sadly we have seen many pastors, Saints over WORK and as a result THEIR FAMILY GETS NEGLECTED AND THEY NEGLECT THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITHD GOD
