The elders who were among you extort.
I who am a fellow Elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ and also partaker of the glory that will really be revealed Shepherd.
The flock of God, which is among you serving as overseers, not like compulsion, but willingly, not for dishonest game, but eagerly nor as being Lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.
And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the Crown of Glory that does not fade away.

Over the next three weeks.
We are going to do a little bit of a miniseries.
And the reason for that is my desire has been and always will be for delivers in Jesus Christ.
The think biblically, that's my desire for Christian Believers to think biblically.
And as I look at my time as Pastor here drawing to a close, there are three areas that I want to challenge Grace Church.
So I think biblically in why?
Well, because I want Grace Church to be a church.
That functions biblically a church that functions biblically.
So we're going to spend the next three weeks looking at three topics that I believe are Central to this idea of being a church that functions biblically.
Today.
We're going to look at the first of three areas.
In the first is thinking biblically.
About Elders thinking biblically about Elders as we begin.

I thank you for the grace and strength that you give to face life.
We recognize board that each day.
There are trials and difficulties and obstacles.
And it is only by Your Grace by your strength that we are able to endure.

One of the things about me is that I love a good fictional story.
I have to be more specific.
I love stories that have magic in them and special abilities.
And then when I want to just kind of unplug and read something for fun, those are the kinds of things that I enjoy there exists in our world of fiction.
What I like to call my nerd.
Jam Minard Jam is stories TV shows movies, that merge kind of a science-fiction idea with ancient times, okay.
Recently, I read this book.
That was my nerd Jam.
All right, it was these robots that have lived Among Us for Millennia and it was just it was fantastic.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book at one portion of the book.
There was the leader of the robots who convinced all of them to come together.
And he said we're going to sleep for the next Thousand Years cuz we conquered the world and then we'll wait back up and we'll do it again type of thing cuz they were bored, right.
The problem was he was lying and he's actually going to do is siphon the energy out of all of the other robots are so that they would die and he would live What does story highlights is the necessity of having a good leader?
You need to have a good leader.
See history is filled with men who were eloquent who were passionate who were charismatic, but they were immoral men.
These men were placed into positions of leadership and Devastation was the result.
We could start saying names, right?
We can say Hitler, we have a stall, and we can say, any of these people.
They were charismatic.
But they were wrong and they took the people that they LED in the devastating places.
You see the truth is that when a leader is not healthy, everyone suffers and this holds true in the spiritual realm as well.
And for today, we want to talk about Elders.
Why, because Elders are essential to the healthy function of the local church.
However, the elders themselves must be healthy, and no, both their role and their function.
In addition, the membership of the local church needs to be able to identify.
What does a healthy Elder look like?
And how is he to function?
And we need to do that because the health of the local church depends on having helping M ship.
We got to sum it up this way, Christ desires his church to be healthy.
A healthy Church requires healthy leaders who raised up healthy members.
This is how you have a healthy Church.
Therefore as a church, we must be able to identify healthy leaders.
In scripture is not silent on this issue.
Scripture provides detailed information about what a leader looks like.
What a healthy leader looks like I do today.
We're going to consider elders and so here is our principal healthy Elders are necessary for the local church.
Held the elders are necessary for the local church.
This principle comes to us with guidance, right?
There are three components of a healthy, Elder, three things that are going to make an elder healthy.
This we just do an outcome where there are healthy leaders.
There will be a healthy Church.
So component number 18, healthy Elder is qualified a healthy.
Elder is qualified.
It is.
Oh man, almost Universal rule that when you want to put someone in a position you want, the person who is most qualified for the job, right?
In the workforce.
You want to put someone qualified into a position.
The body of Christ is no different.
We need qualified people to serve in positions of leadership.
How do we know if someone is qualified to be an elder?
Well, that's a great question.
Scripture gives us the qualifications of an elder in two passages and we're going to look at them very briefly this morning.
The qualifications listed in these two passages are very similar.
There is a Trevor to major differences in 1st Timothy.
The difference is the answer to this question.
Does he want it?
Does he want it go with me to 1st Timothy Chapter 3? Verses 1 through 7.
We're going to start with just verse 1, verse Timothy 3:1.
Let me get this first Timothy instead of 2nd Timothy.
Alright, 1st Timothy, 3:1.
This is a faithful saying if a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work.
This work.
Bishop is the Greek word, episcopus, or episcopi and needs visitation position, Church oversight, and is the office of watching over directing and caring for a church.
