My brothers and sisters in this journey of life we often find ourselves doing projects or trying to complete a task. Sometimes the task that we are trying to complete takes longer than expected and we try to put it off and leave it incomplete because we have become comfortable with they way it looks.. Or we say to ourselves i’ll continue it tomorrow and that turns into a week and from a week it turns into a month and then it turns into years and the task is still not complete because of our comfort. Comfort will cause you to be ok with not completing the task. Comfort will cause you to become stagnant and you will continue to put the task off. Not only is this happening in the natural but spiritually the church has become too comfortable with not growing. The church is in a position now where they say they want more but they really don’t want more. We continue to put off praying we continue to put off fasting we continue to put off staying in our word. The church has become comfortable. Just as we do in the natural we do the same thing in the spiritual we put the things of God to the Side and have become stagnant in our walk with Christ. We must remember that being a christian is not about comfort. When you find yourself in comfort you find yourself complacent . Thats why on this christian journey it is not meant for it to be comfortable.
But what we should realize is on this christian journey we will find ourselves in uncomfortable situations. Yes uncomfortable situations may not always feel good but according to Romans 8:28
Romans 8:28 NLT
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
Even though it might not feel good, God is going to work it together for our Good.
So we must realize the place of comfort is not where we want to be but we must remain in a place of uncomfortableness.
Okay Let me give you some examples
Jesus was always reaching those who necessarily were not like him. Jesus understood if he would’ve got to place of comfort he would not have came and fulfilled his assignment, because there was almost a time where Jesus Got Complacent while praying in the Garden of Gethsemane he got himself together and said Nevertheless Not Mine will but yours be done. When you live in a state of uncomfortableness you’ll be able to say to yourself Not my will but yours be done.
We as christians must learn to stay in a place to say not my will but thine be done. When you want to go off and not do the will of the Lord you have to say Not my will but your will be done. When they talk about you and scandalize your name and you want to get back at them you got to tell yourself not my will but thine be done.
So we must understand that Being a christian is an uncomfortable place and we see that our prime example of who we should be living for was always in uncomfortable positions.
Jesus always found himself in Uncomfortable Situations. There was a pharisee man named nicodemus that came to jesus.
Yall know about Nicodemus he came to Jesus in the Night hour to ask Jesus a question and have a discussion with him. Jesus could’ve just said No i'm Tired i don’t feel like talking. He Had just got done performing his first miracle at the wedding. So i can only imagine Jesus Had probably wobbled and electric slide at the reception and on top of that he performed the miracle so Jesus was probably tired. But he didn’t let that stop him. I can imagine Jesus in comfort in his Pjs Chilling but he still understood his task. He Stayed in an uncomfortable position despite being comfortable. He told Nicodemus how one can see the kingdom of Heaven. He told him you must be born again. He told him that you must believe that God Sent his Son so that everyone might believe in him So they can have Eternal Life.
So We see that Jesus loves uncomfortable positions.
I just stop by to let somebody know today that we cannot get in a comfortable position because there is work for the kingdom to be done.
The saints would sing a song.
Oh Zion whats the matter now
You don’t pray like you use to pray
You don’t sing like you use to sing
You don’t serve like you use to serve.
Oh Zion whats the matter now.
Well I will tell you whats the matter, The saints have gotten to comfortable and complacent when there is still work to be done.
You ought to look at your neighbor and nudge them tell your neighbor don’t get comfortable, The Job is Not Done.
Now we see here Paul. Is writing the the Philippian church. In this first chapter this is not the first time he is interacting with the Philippians. We can see in Acts 16 where paul interacts with the Philippians.
Lydia was one of the women who was there. Lydia was a seller of purple. She was the first convert. Paul spoke and “the Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul:. After her conversion, Lydia offered them a place to stay while they were in Philippi.
Paul and his team continued to go to prayer. As they went, there was a woman with a spirit of divination who followed them crying out, “These men are the servants of the most high God which show us the way of salvation”. She did this for many days. Paul being grieved by this commanded the spirit to come out of her in the name of Christ Jesus. Her bosses were not happy with this because she was no longer profitable to them. They caught Paul and Silas in the marketplace and brought them before the rulers saying these men are troublemakers. The rulers had them beaten and thrown in jail.
Even in jail, this did not stop the work. If you can’t get to the prayer meeting, have the prayer meeting where you are. Paul and Silas began to pray and sing praises to God n the prison. And suddenly there was an earthquake, the foundation of the prison was shaken and all the doors were open. When the jailer woke up and saw what happened, he thought the prisoners had escaped and was going to kill himself, but Paul announced they were all present. The jailer then wanter to know how he could be saved. Paul told him, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Paul and his team answered the call, showed up and worked. They were working to spread the gospel throughout Philippi.
Now we see Paul is writing to the Philippians. Here in the first chapter and 6 verse, Paul is in a prayer thanks. He is thanking God for allowing him to have a church like the Philippians. Paul says that every time he prays for the Philippians he does so with joy, and he is joyful because they have shared in the gospel. Paul went to Philippi and shared the gospel and the kept the work going.
But it was something that stuck out to me when paul said in Philippians 1:6
Philippians 1:6 NLT
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
Lets look at this verse it Says And I am Certain, and i am for sure, And if it is one thing that i am positive of, and i have no doubt, and i am not in question that God who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
This scripture tells me and this brings me to my first point on why the job is not done is because God is Committed to Transforming you.
God is committed to transforming us. But we as believers must be willing to be transformed. God is always willing and wanting to transform us but we as believers get comfortable where we are at and don’t want to be transformed. The bible says here that God who has started a Good work in you will continue to work until the day when jesus returns.
This tells me that Jesus is committed to continuing to work on our behalf. We learn here that when Jesus Starts something he is going to finish it. We often times start something with a zeal and a fire but it will fade out over time. But that is not God when he is committed to something his Fire is never going out. Thats why i know he is committed to transforming us because of what he did for us. God sent his only son, sacrificed his only son to die on me and your behalf. Thats when the work started when he sent his son to die for our sins and not only that he is still working and committed to transforming us to this day. If that’s not commitment I don’t know what is.
So just like Jesus has that Fire and is committed to us we should be committed to him to grow spiritually and not be complacent. There is still work to do God is still working on Our behalf So our Job is not Done.
We must seek after the face of Jesus and keep striving to be like him and strive each and every day to be better christians. It is important that we do this because of the promises that God has given us.
This is why i am going to keep on working because of his promises, This is why i’m going to strive to be more like christ and let him transform me because of his promises.
Well what did he promises well he promise me That i will be the Head and not the tail.
He promised me that he will never give up on me
He promised me that i will be the lender and not borrower
He promise to lead and guide me
he promised me that he is a friend that sticks closer than a brother
He promised me that Everything i need is in him.
I just need 10 people and ill make 11 that can thank God for his Promises
Is there anybody in this church today knows that God is a promise keeping God.
My bible tells mw that God is not a man that he should lie nor the son of man that he shall repent if he said it Gods going to do it.
God is able church Don’t give up on God Cause he won’t give up on you, HE ABLE.
So we must remember to not let our present conditions rob us of the joy of knowing christ or keep you from growing closer to him.
God is committed to transforming you but must be willing to be transformed.
Now we see if we look at Philippians 1:21-26
Philippians 1:21–26 NLT
For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better. I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live. Knowing this, I am convinced that I will remain alive so I can continue to help all of you grow and experience the joy of your faith. And when I come to you again, you will have even more reason to take pride in Christ Jesus because of what he is doing through me.
Paul here is in the midst of a big decision. He is writing to the Philippian church and he is basically saying in verses 21-23 that he is stuck in between wanting to go on to be with Jesus or staying here on this earth. If i may put it in the JLC translation Paul basically says it would be great and no better feeling to go and live with christ. I’m Sure Paul was ready to go and live with Christ . I say this because if you know anything about Apostle Paul, he had been through alot. Paul went from being a persecutor to being a preacher. Paul preached in synagogues, he preached at riversides, he preached as a prisoner, he preached as an apostle, he preached as a tentmaker. His message was consistent, “Jesus Christ, him crucified. Paul spoke the message of salvation to kings, soldiers, priest and philosophers, Jews and Gentile, men and women. Paul had also been shipwrecked and left outside the city for dead, Paul had been bitten by a venomous snake. Paul had been beaten down and as he is writing this letter to the Philippians he’s currently locked up in jail.
So I’m sure Paul was ready to go and be with Jesus but he understood that his Job was not done yet.
Paul understood that his job was not done. Yes he could’ve went where the halves have never been told and where the streets are paved with gold but he understood that his job was not done he understood that someone still needed to hear his word that God has given him.
That’s brings me to my second point and that is the job is not done because it is someone that needs to hear your story so that God can get the Glory
Just look at your neighbor and tell them that God needs you to keep working so someone can hear your story and God can get the Glory. My. Brothers and sisters if anyone had a story to tell it was Paul as I mentioned before Paul had many hardships and went through some trying times and he gets here and is writing to the Philippian church while he is locked up and locked down that he is in between rather staying or leaving. I’m just gone be honest if I was Paul I would’ve chose to leave here but Paul understood his assignment. And that’s all I come by to tell you today is you can’t give up just now. I knew you threw in the towel but God through it back cause you work is not done. Somebody needs to hear your story. Somebody needs know if God did it for you, if God took care of you he can certainly do it for them. Keep your Hands in Gods Hand and he will see you through. I know you’re tired I know it seems like the weight of the world is on your but cast all your cares on him for he cares for you.
My brothers and sisters we have to understand the assignment and continue to keep working through the midst of adversity and trying times.
So keep going because someone needs to hear your story.
Lastly paul Says in verse in Philippians 1:25-26
Philippians 1:25–26 NLT
Knowing this, I am convinced that I will remain alive so I can continue to help all of you grow and experience the joy of your faith. And when I come to you again, you will have even more reason to take pride in Christ Jesus because of what he is doing through me.
Paul realizes and finally says it is better for him to stay alive because so he can continue to help and see the growth and development of the saints . Paul understood that others still needed him. His work was not yet done. God gave him a purpose to develop others. He remains because it is more necessary for the progress and job of the Philippians faith. God has a plan for him to invest into those God put into his care. Know this my brothers and sisters, we have all been given the ministry of reconciliation. Who has God put in your care? Someone’s progress and joy in the faith needs your investment. Paul helped others through his words and actions to live a righteous and joyful life. We should do the same for those around us.
And not only that he is looking forward to the day when he can come together with them to rejoice and lift up the name of jesus. My Brothers and sisters your Job is not done and this is my final point because we are to encourage and build up others in the gospel of Christ. Paul encouraged the Philippians to remain joyful. We too must remain joyful.
Paul survived this imprisonment, and was set free, He did come to visit the Philippians again. Although he was later martyred later at Rome. Paul was able to say at the end of his life, I have fought a good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.
You may be ministering and facing something but just know you can remain joyful in the midst of it all. Paul is in jail facing things and he is still ministering with joy. Keep on ministering with joy because someone is counting on your ministry.
But as I get ready to leave you I want tell you a story about a basketball team and a player on the team. This particular team is the Los Angeles lakers. Back in 2020 the lakers won the western conference championship. After winning this western conference championship seemed like the whole team was celebrating except for this one person. The one person who wasn’t celebrating was Lebron James. Later on he was asked why was he sitting on the court not celebrating with his team? Lebron responding back and gave an answer like only Lebron could and basically said that the job is not done. Lebron knew that the ultimate goal was to win the nba championship the western conference championship was good in its place but the NBA world championship is what he wanted in his end.
Saints all I came to tell you this morning is that the job is not done
We have a goal to reach and that is to get to heaven and in order to get to heaven we must keep working
Joseph understood that the job was not done he could’ve stopped serving God after all that he went through but he remained faithful to God
Job understood that the job wasn’t done he could’ve cursed god and died but he remained faithful.
David understood that the job wasn’t done even through the midst of the evil and messed up stuff he did. He got himself together and stayed faithful to God cause he understood that the job was not done
Okay maybe y’all didn’t get none of those
Jesus understood that the job was not done he prayed in the garden of gethsemane and he wanted to give in but he said Not my will but thine will be done. And my Jesus my lily in the valley….
