We’re looking here at the start of Jesus’ public ministry. He’s closing up a 40 day fast, and He’s probably exhausted. Enter Satan! Satan loves to come in your weak moments.
If you don’t have a revelation of WHO you are and WHOSE you are you will never get your prayers answered. You’ll never have victory in your walk over Satan. Satan had to know that if Jesus realized who He was, he knew he’d be in trouble. God the Father loves His children and will withhold nothing good from those who walk uprightly!
Never forget that Satan tried to destroy Jesus, and he failed. Jesus knew who He was and whose He was! When the attack come to your doorstep you may be tempted, and at times you may fail. But you do know some basic facts that Jesus knew…You know who you are, you know who your Father is, and you know that you are sons and daughters of the living God.
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:
‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’
and,
‘In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”
Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”
Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”
Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

Five Weapons Jesus Used To Defeat Satan
Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit…Jesus was led by the Holy Ghost. Unfortunately many today don’t take the time to consult God for anything. Many will just do whatever they want to do. That’s fine, it’s your choice. However, if you want to defeat the devil you need to be led by the Holy Ghost! Being led by Him is the only way He can move on your behalf…Gal. 5:16 But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).
The Amplified Bible (La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation, 1987), Ga 5:16.
He will make you successful, prosperous, and blessed in this earth.
2. Jesus fasted…Jesus fasted! Jesus the Christ, the Son of God, had to fast. Looking throughout history, people that had breakthrough and did awesome things for God incorporated fasting to their lifestyle.
3. Jesus used the Word of God…When the enemy comes for you, you won’t defeat him with your thoughts or empty words. We will defeat him every time with the Word of God! His word will win the war...For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.
The Amplified Bible (La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation, 1987), Heb 4:12.
4. Know who you are…You cannot allow the enemy to take your identity from you, know who you are! He will try to shake you from your foundation, stand your ground. You might say “I may not look like a victorious christian right now, because bloodied and hurt from the battle. But you cannot shake me and dislodge my identity, because I know where I’m going. It may not be manifest yet, but I know who I am. I am a child of God. I have royalty flowing through these veins. A name that is above every other name is attached to mine!”
1 Cor. 6:17 But the person who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him.
The Amplified Bible (La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation, 1987), 1 Co 6:17.
5. Jesus had divine persistence…We need that same persistent spirit! The devil came and hit Jesus with the best he had, and Jesus hit him back. Do you want victory over the devil? Then get a divine persistent spirit that says “ If you hit me, I’ll hit you back harder!” Gal. 6:9 And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint.
The Amplified Bible (La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation, 1987), Ga 6:9.
We cannot afford to give up in this fight. With such a short time left to fight we must fight like never before. If we’ll learn to fight like Jesus, we’ll walk in that same power. Greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world! No weapon formed against you will prosper! Your weapons are mighty for the pulling down of strongholds! You are above and not below, the head and not the tail! This is your inheritance. You are a child of the King covered by the blood of His Son! You have everything you need to win this fight!
