Introduction
The proverbs say Prov 22:28 “28 Remove not the ancient landmark, Which thy fathers have set.”
In Deut 19:14 “14 Thou shalt not remove thy neighbor's landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the Lord thy God giveth thee to possess it.”
Landmarks are important, but we have lost their original importance. Landmarks don’t just designate geography. It also designates inheritance, or generational connection. For the Israelites, it meant a connection to their past.
Landmarks are a way to designate boundaries. God I want to talk about the spiritual boundaries that are necessary for a Christian’s life. Turn to Exodus 14:10-14 “10 And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the Lord. 11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt? 12 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness. 13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. 14 The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”
Let’s pray for the blessing on this message
I. Out of Egypt God Called his Children
I. Out of Egypt God Called his Children
I want to bring out a few key pieces in this passage. First is verse 11, Exo 14:11 “11 And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?”
Egypt is a type of the world.
There were times Christian when you felt like you had been dragged out of your life into a new life you don’t fully yet understand.
For some new Christians the thinking is that at least my life was familiar. I understood it. Now I’m a Christian and I don’t know who I am any more. What I should do, how I should act.
Remember, once you are saved you are changed, but the rest of your life and family is still in Egypt.
Create a landmark. The old life is in Egypt. Your new life is in the church! This building, these people, this is your new life. Out of Egypt into the Church!
The way out of Egypt is through the wilderness
Look at Exod 14:12 “12 Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it had been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.”
First, it was not better in the world, you were lost and and on your way to hell Now, your a child of God!
However, the road out of Egypt is through the wilderness.
Once you leave Egypt, you can’t go back
Look at verse Exod 14:13 “13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.”
You old life is gone! Those friends, those old party places, those old haunts, they are gone!
As Moses told them “You shall see them again no more for ever.”
