The Transformational Power Of A Husbands Love
The Transformational Power Of A Husbands Love
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
This is the word of God
Truth makes us free
vs 25
The longer you stay together the better marriage is
Love is giving
We try to love but
With men it is impossible with God all things are impossible
God wants us to understand we can’t do this without God’s power
There is no way to do this in the energy of the flesh
You are the bride of Christ - Jesus gave everything so that you may be in His home with Him forever
3 Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, And a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.
4 Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; Neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: But thou shalt be called Hephzi-bah, And thy land Beulah: For the Lord delighteth in thee, And thy land shall be married.
5 For as a young man marrieth a virgin, So shall thy sons marry thee: And as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, So shall thy God rejoice over thee.
Royal diadem - jewel covered crown
God delights and wows over you
Hephzi-bah - My delight
Virgin - Someone who has saved themselves for their life partner
We are all sinners, but God looks at us as excited as a groom is for a bride
We are betrothed - there was a betrothal price given unto the brides father
A house would be built
unexpected he would come to get her
She would be prepared
27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
They were confusing John with the groom
We are going to hear the voice of the groom
23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; And the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: For thy merchants were the great men of the earth; For by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
We are going to our eternal home
5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.
6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.
7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
9 And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.
Wedding - What a celebration this will be
A ceremony
1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
9 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.
The church is the bride of Christ
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Why did Jesus give himself for His bride?
Jesus paid the price in like manner we are to lay down our life for the bride.
Where is the greater demand in this portion of scripture
Give everything
In our flesh men, we don’t want to lay down our life
In the flesh Ladies, you don’t want to submit
As men, we must let God change our heart - we must love our wife
Love beautifies the wife
When a wife is adorned by love from our husband, there will be a desire to submit.
Why did Jesus give all of Himself for the church?
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Love purifies - So if any husband should say, ‘My wife isn’t all she should be.’
the answer is love her like Jesus loves the church - Giving Himself for the church purified the church
Some men want to change their wife - give yourself, in love, to your wife with the same passion as Jesus did for the church.
Jesus could not change us until He gave Himself for us
This truth is immutable
Are you willing to give yourself wholly and completely?
As Jesus took up His cross, are you willing to take up your cross and give yourself in love for your wife?
Your wife’s personal attractiveness is increased when you give yourself
Her beauty radiates when you give yourself
Her value increases when you give yourself
Her dignity excels when you give yourself
Her morality increases in value when you give yourself
34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Are you investing in your wife?
Physically providing for the wife
Emotionally protecting and strengthening my wife
Spiritually lifting and edifying my wife
There is nothing that can compare to that investment and she will increasingly become more of a treasure to me and everyone in her realm of influence.
Much of the reason men’s eyes and minds wonder from their wife is because they are not investing in their wife like Jesus invested and is still investing in the church.
There is nothing that can’t be fixed by God in your marriage!
When I am willing to give and invest everything and anything, my wife becomes a glorious treasure to me - more valuable than anything or anyone except for My Lord Jesus Christ!
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
If I give myself, my life, to my wife, that investment actually benefits me.
It is an investment that benefits all our relationships.
Christ gave all to the church, someday the church will be presented to Him without any spot or wrinkle completely pure!
Honey, I can’t believe how beautiful you are. It’s unfathomable that you married me, I’m so blessed to have you as my wife.
We all have flaws, but the more I give my life to my wife the more I
8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
The reason we have we such critical spirits in our wife is because we haven’t loved and invested in our wife.
That he might present it to himself
Are there spots
Are there wrinkles
Blemishes
God sees us as Holy and without blemish - how? Because He gave His life
Husband if you will give your life for her you will see her differently.
The more I invest in my wife, the more I realize I don’t deserve her.
The more I invest in my wife, the more I realize she is perfect for me.
The more I invest in my wife, the more I see that anger or unforgiveness towards her would not only hurt her but also why would I ever want to hurt her.
The more I invest in my wife the more I see that harsh or cruel or unloving words not only destroy her spirit but they destroy me.
The more beautiful she becomes
The more you give, the more you love
I didn’t say wives submit to your husbands in everything
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
Love your wife as your own body!
Love your wife and you love yourself
Is it possible that a man’s lack of love for his wife because of his own lack of security in himself.
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
This mystery of God loving His people is demonstrated
His endless love covers multitudes of sins
Your marriage can point to a loving God
Does our marriage preach the truth of the Gospel
When a wife will not submit to her husband as to the Lord - it preaches another Gospel
When a husband will not love his wife as Christ has loved the church - it preaches another Gospel
Everywhere we go does the world say wow look at that marriage -
The wife has such attention to the desires of her husband
The Husband has such kindness
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
Love- to be a friend to (fond of [an individual or an object]), that is, have affection for, be extremely and uncritically fond of, a tender kiss
Reverence: to be in awe of, that is, revere
Reassuring,
If you will provide for your wife and love her physically, emotionally, spiritually
Spiritually purify - Spiritual intimacy together
Until we are willing to submit to Christ we will never submit to one another
May we walk with one another in the Spirit
