Proverbs 16:25–29 25 There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. 26 It is good for workers to have an appetite; an empty stomach drives them on. 27 Scoundrels create trouble; their words are a destructive blaze. 28 A troublemaker plants seeds of strife; gossip separates the best of friends. 29 Violent people mislead their companions, leading them down a harmful path.”

How to Beat Boredom

Clara just read a few minutes ago, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isa. 40:31).

Renewed Strength, Mount up with Eagles wings, NOT BE WEARY, now wouldn’t that be a pleasant feeling, we can walk, not hurry all the time. I’M ALL IN!

I. A Change of Place

Psalm 122:1, the Psalmist tells us: “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.” The Psalmist wanted to go to church. Do we? When someone invites us to go to the house of God are we excited? Or do we start making excuses?

A. When people are confined to the same place for lengthy periods of time, they may become bored. Like this winter, or maybe this Spring, I’m ready to run, go here and there. How many people last week did you find out were on Spring Break? All over the place, Calif, Miss, Alabama, Fla of course. I didn’t chat with anyone that went to Minn. LOL

B. A change of scenery relieves monotony. A vacation, a short trip, even a visit to a new restaurant often helps.

C. Going places for God offers the most effective change of place. Last Thursday, I went to Menards and was chatting with the Customer service girl. I told her I was a Pastor, she right away told me she had returned to Jesus, told me the church in Breeman, she had Jesus on her face. Are we Calling on others, witnessing, and winning the unsaved to Jesus Christ, trust me this will banish boredom.

II. A Change of Face, Now this one can get me into trouble. LOL

Eccles 8:1 tells us: “A man’s wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed”

A. A new hair style, hat, dress, boots or suit often lifts drooping egos or boredom. By deliberately changing one’s facial expression, one can actually change one’s feelings. WHAT? Yep, just changing our emotions on our face.

B. Stop frowning and start smiling. “Put on a happy face.” A cheerful expression helps generate a positive attitude toward oneself and others.

Colossians 3:22–24 “22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord. 23 Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. 24 Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.”

This past Friday, Burger King downtown, the lady at the FIRST window is such a sweet lady, I told her I appreciate her kindness, she replied “I have a caring heart.” I replied, you would never have to say a word, your kindness is all over your face!

C. Hoping in God creates happiness Psalm 146:5 “5 But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God.

III. Are we Searching for A Change of Pace? Do we even want a change of pace? Do we love flailing around in our pity?

Psalm 37:22–24 “22 Those the Lord blesses will possess the land, but those he curses will die. 23 The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. 24 Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.”

A. A change of pace is often the answer to boredom. Some need to slow down; others need to speed up. WHAT???????

B. While temperaments, maybe life’s situations, family issues and circumstances, health conditions, life varies with individuals, feelings should not determine one’s pace.

Luke tells us in:

Luke 16:9–11 “9 Here’s the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home. 10 “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. 11 And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?”

C. Almost everyone needs a spiritual change of pace. We need to do more for God, giving Him first place in our lives. Not a different church, a different daily planner. Friday, Fran mentioned the Spring work day with Christ Church. Let’s all be there. Well, My Grandson Coleson’s first birthday party is that day, April 2nd I believe. I’ll be there!

Proverbs 10:4–5 “4 Lazy people are soon poor; hard workers get rich. 5 A wise youth harvests in the summer, but one who sleeps during harvest is a disgrace.”

IV. A Change of Grace, so do we need a change of Grace? Is your heart opened, softened to receive the Glorious Grace from our Father?

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you” (2 Cor. 9:8).

A. Many Christians fail to depend on God as they should. People who rely solely on others are continually disappointed. Have you ever reached out to someone thinking you will get the response, the reply, the support you want but instead get a bunch of “lip service?” Don’t we get a little irritated? Maybe we are reaching out to the wrong source?

B. God’s grace is never a disappointment. Trusting in Him banishes boredom and blesses us with great joy! for the Christian life is a continual challenge. AMEN

C. God’s grace changes darkness, drabness, and dejection to light, life, and love.

I am going to close with a challenge this morning. If you are full of pride, if your life is consumed with bragging and boasting then you are probably living a sad and selfish life. We are to be humble, gentle, caring, loving.

2 Corinthians 12:7–9 “7 even though I have received such wonderful revelations from God. So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud. 8 Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. 9 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.”

Are we quiet servants of Christ? Is all we really strive for is God’s Grace or are we striving for man’s approval? Let Scripture lead you into the place to receive God’s love, His glorious peace and begin today to make a few changes to your life of boredom.

AMEN
