Our Condition

Genesis 6:5–6 NKJV
5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
Psalm 52:2–3 NKJV
2 Your tongue devises destruction, Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. 3 You love evil more than good, Lying rather than speaking righteousness. Selah
Isaiah 64:6 NKJV
6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.
So before we come to Christ, we are lost in the wilderness just like the Israelites were for 40 years. Some of us have spent more than 40 years in that wilderness, but the point is that you don’t stay in that wilderness. That’s what we’re talking about tonight. Salvation from the wilderness of sin.

Sin’s Consequences

Last week we talked about how sin is a poison that will kill you. It promises everything but returns nothing. Its a lie of temporary pleasure. Only God can give you that pleasure that you seek. Only God can give you that peace that you seek.
Ephesians 2:1–2 NKJV
1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,
Romans 3:23–24 NKJV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

What’s the Fix?

Romans 5:6–8 NKJV
6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 6:23 NKJV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Jesus is our salvation. You’re not going to find it in the bottom of a bottle, in any drug, any woman, any person. Jesus is THE way to salvation.
John 14:6 NKJV
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Remember who Jesus was saying this to? The Jews would have remembered their ancestors from Moses time. So when he says I AM, who did Moses ask God to tell them who sent him? I AM. Not I was, or I will be. God is the great I AM. He is forever constant and working on our behalf. Whenever you ask God “How am I going to get out of this mess I’m in.” Remember the answer is you won’t, but I AM going to get you through it. “God, I need this, what am I going to do?” Don’t worry about it son, I AM your provider!
Ephesians 2:3–10 NKJV
3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
How do we get this salvation though. Is it an internal acknowledgement that Jesus? Not according to Romans 10.
Romans 10:9–10 NKJV
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
So all of us need salvation. It doesn’t matter if you’ve solved world hunger, cured cancer, or won a nobel peace prize. Without Jesus, you don’t have salvation period. We may have royally screed up many times over, but thanks be to God, that He is merciful, that He loves us and that He sent His Son.
