The Apostle’s taught the early church the clear gospel of Jesus Christ!
They were taught thus they were rooted, built up, and established in the faith! They were suppose to then live in a way that reflected their rich heritage! Live gratefully! Live with a sense of gratitude for God’s divine guidance!
They weren’t just suppose to live gratefully but they were to abound with thanksgiving! Abound - meaning overflowing with showing and expressing appreciation!
This is what we are challenged to do everyday! Yet we struggle with overflowing gratefulness!
Why? Because their is work that we must do!
If God is so great, then why do I have to work?
* This comes from bitterness. Bitterness reveals a lack of knowing your God, and realizing the depths of your sinfulness!
Notice verse 8; the work is never fair from a believers actions “See to it that no one takes you captive” This is a Pauline imperative statement - watch carefully because there are ones that desire to capture (take control of) you!
A. Through Philosophy - this isn’t just philosophy, but a philosophical way of life. Their system. Paul isn’t saying don’t love wisdom, he is saying don’t love the world’s version of wisdom over loving wisdom that is from above!
B. Through empty deceit - like most of the news of today’s world. They are guilty of too much info. Leading to irrelevant!
