Wine = Blood of the Grape
3631 οἶνος [oinos /oy·nos/]
1 wine.
Or winepress
2 metaph.
fiery wine of God’s wrath.[1]
Grace factor: God can bless ahead of schedule
Jesus displayed His honor of:
· His mother’s request
· The holy matrimony of one man and one woman.
· Modern application – Oh that the church would do the same…
· Symbolism – Christians are described as – God’s Spirit living in earthen vessels
· the main point of the story = Evangelism, not drinking
The CHURCH needs to be filled the HOLY SPIRIT so that CHRIST will be seen in US!
· “Till now” = the end time generation –
· you were born for such a time as this!
Make the most of your divine opportunity.
Miracles reveal God’s Glory
The world will believe the Lord when His church has faith to perform miracles in His Name!
Jesus’ Wine = Grape Juice
· God is holy – would NEVER be associated with ANYTHING that would hurt someone.
Wine used as drink offerings - Ex 29, Lev 23, Num 15
· A drink-offering of wine was presented with the daily sacrifice (Ex.
29:40, 41),
· and also with the offering of the first-fruits (Lev.
23:13),
· and with various other sacrifices (Num.
15:5, 7, 10).
Nazarite vow
Communion wine represents Christ’s blood - 1 Cor 11
· Wine was used at the celebration of the Passover – 1 Corinthians 11
Should a Christian consume alcohol?
· When it is drunk, water is generally mixed with it, and this was the custom in the days of Christ also.
· The people indeed are everywhere very sober in hot climates; a drunken person, in fact, is never seen”, (Geikie’s Life of Christ).[2]
“Excess test” – would the consumption of something cause you to:
· Act or speak inappropriately?
· Fill you with remorse or regret?
· Cause an addiction that requires professional help or intervention?
· Become a hazard to yourself or the safety of others?
– driving
This does not happen with – water, milk, tea, coffee, soda, fruit drinks, etc but it DOES with any form of alcohol.
· Don’t be duped by Hyper-Grace teachings promoting alcohol
Drunkenness is a sin
· Several emphatic warnings are given in the New Testament against improper use of wine.
End time warning – days of Noah – eating and drinking – until Jesus came back
Closing – Focus on the Man, not the Miracles
