Pleading to God.
Bear Who Said, “Bless This Food I Am About to Eat
An atheist was walking through the woods looking at the beautiful trees and flower that had just bloomed. Because he was an atheist he couldn’t thank anyone for the beautiful landscape that he was witnessing. As he was gazing at the sky he saw a bear running toward him, he jumped up and began to run up the hill. Not knowing any better he continued to run up the hill, a bear runs best up a hill because of his strong hind legs, it is better to run down a hill, but any way... The atheist fell to the ground and thought a second and said well I don’t believe there is a God but maybe this one time I will call upon His name. The atheist said “God, I need help!” Since I don’t believe you exist, I have a request. Will you make this bear a Christian? Just then the wind stopped howling, the creek stopped running and the bear stopped - knelt to the ground and said “Dear Lord, Please bless this food that I am about to eat!” (By: Brent Williams, Sermon Central).
12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day’s journey.
13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
Sabbath Journey (Measurement)
Sabbath Journey (Measurement)
the distance one could (or was allowed) to travel on a Sabbath; the basic rule was 2,000 cubits (about 800 to 900 yards).
b [sabbath day’s journey] About one mile.
Dake, F. J. (1997). The Dake Annotated Reference Bible (Ac 1:12). Dake Publishing.
On average it takes about 2,000 steps to walk a mile.
There are 5,280 feet in a mile. To determine the number of steps it will take you to walk a mile, divide 5,280 by your step length. To determine the number of strides it will take you to walk a mile, divide 5,280 by your stride length.
14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
supplication
The action of asking or begging for something earnestly or humbly.
‘he fell to his knees in supplication’
to beg (as binding oneself), i.e. petition:—beseech, pray (to), make request.
What is an example of supplication?
Supplication is defined as the act of humbly begging for something, especially when pleading with God in prayer. An example of supplication is when you get on your knees and pray to God for something. A prayer or entreaty to a god.
Let my supplication come before You; deliver me according to Your word.
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
The supplication of a righteous man avails much in its working.
He was a man of prayer and he made, in verses 4 to 9, a supplication for divine power.
What is the difference between supplication prayer and intercession?
As nouns the difference between intercession and supplication. is that intercession is the act of intervening or mediating between two parties while supplication is an act of supplicating; a humble request.
4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Mueller Known For His Powerful Prayer Life
George Mueller was known for his powerful prayer life . Once while on his way to speak in Quebec for a engagement. he informed the captain that he needed to be in Quebec by Saturday afternoon. As the captain related the story, he said “’It is impossible,’ I said. ’Do you know how dense this fog is?’” “No, he replied, ’my eye is not on the density of the fog, but on the living God who controls every circumstance of life. I have never broken an engagement in 57 years; let us go down into the chart room and pray.’ He knelt down and he prayed one of the most simple prayers. When he had finished I was going to pray, but he put his hand on my shoulder and told me not to pray. ’As you do not believe He will answer, there is no need for you to pray about it. Get up, Captain, and open the door and you will find that the fog has gone.’ “The fog indeed was gone, and George Mueller kept his engagement.” (Jeff Strite in “The Power of Persistent Prayer” on www.sermoncentral.com).
Prayer is Surrender to The Will of God
Prayer is surrender to the will of God and cooperation with that will. If I throw out a boat hook from a boat and catch hold of the shore and pull, do I pull the shore to me, or do I pull myself to the shore? Prayer is not pulling God to my will, but the aligning of my will to the will of God. (E. Stanley Jones - Swindoll’s Ultimate Book of Illustrations and Quotes, page 453).
Hudson Taylor - His Mother’s Prayer
Eighteen-year-old Hudson Taylor wandered into his father’s library and read a gospel tract. He couldn’t shake off its message. Finally, falling to his knees, he accepted Christ as his Savior. Later, his mother, who had been away, returned home. When Hudson told her the good news, she said, “I already know. Ten days ago, the very date on which you tell me you read that tract, I spent the entire afternoon in prayer for you until the Lord assured me that my wayward son had been brought into the fold.” (Our Daily Bread, July 19, 1989).
I Asked God...
I asked for strength and God gave me difficulties to make me strong
I asked for wisdom and God gave me problems to solve
I asked for prosperity and God gave me brawn and brain to work
I asked for courage and God gave me dangers to overcome
I asked for patience God placed me in situations where I was forced to wait
I asked for love and God gave me troubled people to help
I asked for favors and God gave me opportunities
I received nothing I wanted I received everything I needed
My Prayer Has Been Answered.
