Well, good morning. Welcome you. Again this fine Sunday morning. Going to be spending some time and God's word together. I can't think of a better thing for the people of God to do than to Corral around the word of God. Yes or Coral.

Are you messed up my girlfriend? Thank you, Father, for this new Dave, given us the privilege of being alive and to even in the midst of evil. And darkness, says, we can take time to come together to celebrate in to worship you or bother. You are sovereign. You are in control of all things and as we shall go into these passages of scripture, the next 3 or 4 weeks, Lord. And just look in detail at The Sovereign plan that you had for salvation. And for the people, that would be recipients of that, great salvation. Bless us this morning spirit of God. Be our teacher. I pray in Jesus name. Amen. Okay, so, and we're going to be moving moving into God's sovereignty over salvation. And we spent a lot of time talking about salvation. We began with a plate of mankind, with their faith in the Rebellion against God. What? God did to save them through? Jesus Christ. We talked about the salvation for the Jews and the Gentiles alike. And we talked about the gods of sanctifying work, what he's doing in our lives. Now to conform us to the image of Christ that we're going to look at back that this was not an afterthought. This was a plan from the beginning. We talk about God's sovereignty. People get nervous. Never do that. Everything said you believe in God's sovereignty, you raise your hand yet. I believe about stubborn stubborn is God. He is the ultimate. Sour me. Is he stopping over? The will of man butt heads. That is we going to the scriptures? Yes. Yes. Yes. That's true. Very true.

Differently. Because of all the culture that there is

Most of the arguments that I've had in most of the people trying to philosophically understand this concept of God's sovereignty in election for Destination is mostly Western philosophies smoothly as a result of our democracy, even, you know, and we'll talk about that. We are moving in the back. We have moved into a 91. Through and we're going to split that up for going to see Israel's at past election. Will look at Israel's present rejection and Israel's future restoration. And then from that point, when we finish chapter 11, we have done, all the confessional theology part and then we'll be moving into what we would call the functional theology by starting in chapter 12 by way of an understanding. My review. Question, is this, how do we know that has sons of God? We are eternally secure. What in scripture, did we cover last week? That would help us understand that? There are, there are number things that I I, I put down three different things here. Anybody remember, something off the top of their head? Oh God, be for us, who can be against? Yeah. Yeah. That that's exactly it. Because God is for us. No one can be against us. We can destroy us, right? And he's not worth.

Over in verse 34, we see this because Christ was condemned in our place. We will not be condemned. There's no one that condemn us. Right? Cuz Christ died were free from the condemnation of that sin that we have and then rate versus from thirty-five to thirty-nine that talk about the hell of a price. Because, nothing physical or Supernatural or ever separate us from the love of God. Yes. When are the Pharisees brought the woman in adultery to him?

It was left by an hourly, right? So they're not stating promises because you're so up to this point we've seen that. God's righteousness is for both Israel and the Gentiles Falls made it clear the God's promises that the field for the Gentiles and the Church of Jesus Christ and Joyce, the spiritual blessings that were promised Israel. The gifts of the Spirit, the adoption of God's children, future Glory election and the promise of never being severed from God's love through 11. The promises that God had made to Israel. And this is always a point of a great discussion in regards to Israel. Is God finished with Israel mean? It is he finished and if not to what extent so what is left for Israel and that that is a point of contention and I think really what the Apostle Paul is pointing out in these chapters here and they will be reached final conclusion in Chapter 11. Is who is just real and who was included in Israel? And all that has happened in God's plan and we saw a vast array of of activity from the Old Testament of how God brought a people from from nothing to predominance to promise. And the purpose of that was why, what was the number one purpose that God raised up Israel. Be Witness. What is your name?

Ring of Fire. Bring the Christ right through Israel came Jesus. Let me ask the question. Is that it? Can I sew? And I I will agree that some of us may disagree on some of these points. But so I'm going to rise much as possible to stick very closely to the scriptures here.

But what Paul is saying, here? It is. Paul is a Jew. He's an ethnic Jew, but he's also a Believer. And so he really wants us to understand is God finished with ethnic Israel. And if not to what extent is he not finished with the word us, kind of unpack. Those things in these lessons here? So we're good at we're going to try and cover 1 through 29.

Yes, I know. I know. Good Greek. I am, I am.

I really want to get Rick teaching. Hermeneutics. You know it. Go on forever.

Okay, so let's let's read the passages 9 1 through 29, okay. So you're saying I am speaking. The truth in Christ. I am not lying. My conscious Bears, me witness in the holy spirit that I have great sorrow and I'm teasing anguish in my heart. I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, My Kinsman. According to the flesh. They are Israelites and to them along what the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law of the worship and the promises to them the Patriarchs in from their race. According to the flesh, is the Christ. Who is God over all blessed forever. Amen. But it is the word of God is fail for. Not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel and that all our children of Abraham because there are offering because they are his offspring. But through Isaac show your Offspring be named. This means that it is not the children of the flash rhombus are counted as Offspring for. This is what the promise said about this time. Next year. I will return. And Sarah Shaw. Have a son, not only. So, but also when Rebecca, I can see children by one man, R for father. Isaac though. They were not yet. Born and had done nothing either. Good or bad in order that God's purpose of election, might continue, not because of works, but because of him who calls, she Told the older will serve the younger as it is written. Jacob. I loved Esau. I hated, what shall we stayed at? Is there. Injustice on God's plan, by no means. He said to Moses. I will have mercy on whom. I will have mercy and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion a. So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but one God who has Mercy. For the scripture, says to Pharaoh for this very purpose. I raised you up and I might show my power in you and that my name, I might be proclaimed in all of Europe. So then he has Mercy on whomever he wills. And he hardened whomever. He Wills, you will say to me, then. Why does he still find and resist? His will? But who are you? Oh man, who answer back to God or what is molded? Say to it smolder? Why have you made me? Like this has the Potter? No right over the clay to make out of the same one vessel for honorable used and another for dishonorable use, what indoor with much patience, vessels of Wrath, prepared for destruction. In order to make known The Riches of his glory. Four vessels of Mercy, which has prepared beforehand for Glory, even ask who he has called, not from the Jews, only, but also from the Gentiles as indeed. He says, in Hosea, those who were not my people. I will call my people and her home was not to leave our beloved. I will call Beloved. And in very place where it was sent to them, you are not my people, there. They will be called sons of the Living, God and Isaiah Cries Out concerning is the number of the sons of the Israel, be as the sand of the sea. Only a remnant of them will be saved. Where the Lord will carry out his sentence upon the Earth, fully and without delay, and that's Isaiah predicted. If the Lord of hosts had not left us Offspring. We would have been like Sodom and become like Gomorrah. That is a tremendous. Passage of scripture, is your rot with. Things that make us nervous humanely. I mean we squirm is some of these things because of God. However, we got it that kind of goes against what this passage is saying. Some people have tried to misinterpret this passenger, tried to say, it's not applicable for today, or it's for it doesn't mean what it said. I actually heard people say I actually heard people say they ripped out chapter 9, Romans. What do you mean repellent chapter 9 Romans? It is all part of God's plan in the very mind and heart of God. His purpose, his place just because God's purpose and playing with what you think. It should be. Does not mean that it's not true. All right. Part of the passages. Chapter 9, verses 1 through 5 PC. Paul's concern for his brother of Israel. I know in this room door people that have felt, this is great concern for The loved ones, they have that are lost. So we see his great concern and he says it like this, his concern is conscious and holy spirit Bears, witness of his great sorrow and grief, the idea that Paul loves his people ethnic Israel. He loves them so much. He is in deep anguish over them. It's kind of reminds me of, when Jesus was looking over Jerusalem. Remember he wet.

You know, those who killed the prophets. Oh, I wish you would come. Yes, even those who were in hell. Are concerned about their people on Earth? Who are going to go to hell. Yeah. Yep. Star. This is a morning isn't increasing? An unceasing angry. She said it continued to me grief for his people Israel. No. I want to I want to go in a thousand different directions. I'm trying to stick in One Direction here, but I I want to say this. That there are people that I've met over the years that come very close to saying that God has a separate plan for the Jews and for the Gentiles as opposed to Salvation. If that were true, why would the Apostle Paul be in such anguish over his people? If there was a separate plan for the Jew for salvation? Why would he desire? As we will see next this portion Burr Street, he would be willing to be cut off from Christ. We get cursed to be cut off and that's him up. How tall is it personal things doomed to destruction?

He was willing to be separated from the whole, the ripped off of the part of the people that God was going to be saving. All had such anguish for his people, say God, if, if you would curse me instead of them, bring them to Salvation and send me the hell.

It is huge. I know. if you do, have people here, that have felt that

So, we are. Feeling the very intimate heart of the Apostle. Paul, if you're for his people and really by the end of this, we will realize that Jew and Gentile would like or save the same way. There is no special privilege given to the Jew or garden salvation. However, he did have some blessings. And in fact, I see here in vs 4 & 5 that he talks about eight different, but I see that are uniquely described it to Israel. As an instrument that God used to bring about Jesus Christ and what are those blessings? Go in, first before we see we see five or six of them. He talked about the adoption. He was made these people the Jewish people came from from obscurity. No one knew anything about Abraham, were the Hebrews in the Jews before God called Abraham. And what did God do? He adopted them? He chose them to be his children from all the nations of the world. Then stole his glory, the very presence of God, with his people. I'm reading through the scriptures again, and I'm in the book of Exodus and had the privilege of just going through and it's really fits into this lesson, two of what God did to Egypt, what he did to pharaoh. And the fact that they when they let the children go to the visual go, what went with the children of Israel was presence in the glory of God, how it was manifested in the cloud and the pillar of fire. The children of Israel. Got to see the very glory of God, the Covenant that God had me the abrahamic Covenant, you know, the davidic Covenant, he had met with the children of Israel Abraham. All the nations of the world will be blessed Because Of You. The law. He's giving them the Ten Commandments worship. He meant. The clear instructions that was given by God to the people on how the people were to approach. God, they were to come into His presence with a sacrifice of an innocent animal. The promise is the promises that dog need to Israel. These were a part of the blessings that God had made, then inverse. We see two other ones. He would give in the Patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. And then the ultimate the Apex. Everything was the Christ, the Messiah and the children of Israel. Paul's Begins by saying, you know, I have my people to come to Christ. Even if I were to be accursed and they were given such tremendous blessings. So, what happened?

Paul wants us to understand. The fact that all Israel are not saved, it's not a failure of God's plan. I feel you. You know, there are some.

Theological disciplines and not going to mention that. Look at the different phases of God's plan, as something that got implemented, that didn't work. So God implemented. The next thing, however, I want us to understand Paul make this very clear. This is not a failure of God's plan. Anyway, not a failure, and he goes to need a lot of races who are the two, the true children of God. So, this is the thing about this as we go through this, this is all in the contacts, is gone done with Israel. Okay, who are the true children of God? Any names three of them? The first one is that they are the children of promise. Not the children of Flesh versus 6013. Make this very clear. Not. The flesh, elaborate this simple. I like glacius doesn't, you know, it's amazing how these two books go hand in here. So they are not all Israel who had descended from Israel. So embarrassed 6, we received this this passage and he says, but it is not as though the word of God has failed. Other words. There was no failure in God's plan for not who are descended from Israel belong to Israel. Or what do you mean, they're what are you saying? This is not a new idea, what? Paul, by the way, those of Faith are the true sons of Abraham. We thought we saw that back in Romans 4. Those score of faith for the two sons of Abraham. Are we supposed to be Abraham? Yes, we are sons of Abraham. This is not some pulse part 2 to escape this difficult, you know, it is the ritual purpose of God, to include only those who believe, only those who believe they are not

Verse is in in the PlayStation 3 7 and 9 plus, I know, then that it is dose of faith who are the sons of Abraham, right? And the scripture for saying that God would justify the Gentiles by faith. Preach the gospel beforehand to Abraham saying and you show all the nations be blessed. So then those who are of Faith or bless the long with Abraham the man of Faith, see that Paul just came to Paul talks about Esau and Jacob of the younger over the phone. Former take a look at Jacob's life. His name was Jacob until he wrestled with God and came to be up. Until that point. He always talked about the God of my fathers, the god of Abraham where the guy was fine. He came and his name was changed to Israel Israel. So when God talks about Israel, he's talking about those in the Covenant. Absolutely. Absolutely straight even further for he says as Illustrated, but Isaac, and Ishmael verses 7 through 13. So these are children of Promise, chosen, not children of the flash loan. You notice how he says that through Isaac and your Offspring be named. So they're not the children of the flash or the children about our, the children of God, but the children of promise

Also, he uses inverse 11 according to God's purpose whose choice was not based upon their works. Now we come to a very, very difficult passage. Write in verse 11, we read this. Do they who are they? These are the children this with the Stars? This is Jacob. And Esau do they were not yet born and had done nothing either. Good or bad, get that they had done nothing, either good or bad and order that God's purpose of election, might continue, not because it works, but because of him who calls received that this is not based on works. It's based on God's election. We see in verse 13, this very difficult passage that says, as it is written. Jacob. I loved Esau, I hated. So, this is a quotation from what I remember. If you said, Malachi. Malachi chapter 1 verses 2 and 3 you would be correct. God is saying, I have to look at the context of the bunch of questions and answers, though. He says I have loved you goddess aimed at Israel. I had loved you and they say I took the Lord. But how have you been? It's not Esau Jacob's brother, declares the Lord yet. I have loved Jacob. But Esau have, I hated, I have laid waste his Hill Country and left his Heritage to jackals of the desert. So God is answering the question. How have you how am I loved you? I chose you over. You saw. By rights, I should have been the first born. He should have received the rights of the first born, but I chose Jacob. So that's how I blocked you. I begs the question. How are we to understand the statement in a light of God's character? This language sounds pretty a bit harsh to us, right? It is possible the word and in the word is me steel, which is always sometimes doesn't carry the full force. Of what means we think of hatred hatred with lashes out in violence and destruction and all that. And this is how else is used in Matthew 6:24. Remember the two masters it says where those is very Birds Maceo and the god, they are contrasted. You'll love the one and hate the other night. We also see that in Luke 14:26. Where were talking about a person who wants, who is to follow Christ. He has to do what he is to meet CEO, leave his father and mother and follow Christ to hate to the extent that we think of hatred. Also, when John 12:25, we see me. So one's life, or hating one's life. There's no doubt that God's preference was for Jacob and rejection of Easter. So, there is a idiot. It is a strong word, but it still doesn't explain why God was so purposeful and loving Jacob, and then very purposeful, and even condemning, Esau, and, and cursing him and talks about the the fact that he would not, he would not Excel is back to his, as he says that his country will be left to jackals in the desert. so,

but pole anticipate the problem, right? Okay, everybody. You got a problem with this. I know. So he anticipates. This is going to be an ejection to the fact that God hate Esau. And his answer is following. So, what is his answer? We see it in, in this section here, since are the objects of God's mercy. So, we were talking about who are the children of God. They are the people who are not of the flesh without the Covenant. And the secondly, they are the objects of God's mercy, we here who know Christ or what objects of God's mercy and with that he explains. The objection. Is there. Injustice in God's part. Look at that. We see that verse 14th. What shall we say that? If he just gets done saying, Jacob, have I loved Esau? I hated he says, I, I anticipate your going to have a problem with this. So what shall we say, that, is there Injustice in God's part. What is the answer to that? It is possible only through his Mercy. Now. He wants us to understand that the fact, the opposite is here is more on the fact that God will answer.

Because he says, any quotes from Exodus chapter 33 verse 19 says it like this, and he said, I will make all my goodness pass before you was talking about. Most was going to hide Moses. Most that I want to see you because I know I'm going to have I'm going to hide you and I'm going to have my goodness pass before you and will Proclaim. Before you my name, and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious. And I will show Mercy on whom I will show Mercy. Notice in this passage. It is that God is always good and never on just he says I will make my goodness pass before you who is declaring himself good and just

Then he's declaring himself as being Sovereign. He has the right to show mercy and compassion on to whomever he chooses. Can we get that? Does God have a right to do. Whatever he wants to do is have a right to choose whoever he wants to choose.

Active. That everybody was condemned. Yes. I mean the backup for Jewel.

It's only because of his grace and mercy that any survived that there is any Remnant that there are any children of God because you're all adopted. Is that if we want to have a problem? With it, Jacob, have I loved and Esau, I hated we should have a problem or with the Jacob that I love have. I looked right? Because if we understood the plight of humanity. Human beings were all under the Judgment of God. The fact that God's love Jacob. This is an act of Mercy. But the God loves us is an act of Mercy. But then again, we live in the Democratic Society and we have a Bill of Rights. Right? So we all have this thing. Wait a minute. That's not fair. Got it done. Just what? What's going on here. I deserve what he deserved, he gets. That's not playing the god. Is overseeing a democracy, he doesn't. We don't go to the voting booth once a year and vote whether we'd like what God is doing or not. We don't do that in a democracy. God is sovereign. We are the beasts, real that we are. Recipients of his Mercy is doing to If you use an analogy, how many of us have ever tried our own lineage? Okay, he's doing the same thing. He's starting with Abraham. Okay, Abraham had eight Sons. Okay, once he took Isaac to Saint Jacob had Wilson. He took one for the passageway. What he's doing is he's going down that path of the Messiah. Exactly. All else is pretty much are relevant to a 1400. Okay? The same thing. It takes one to get to that person. Move from Germany to Switzerland, for example, and that's exactly what you're still doing. The library books, even a greater. So why does, okay, so why you have the objects of his wrath? Or why do they even know why? I never wondered. Why did God even have these people born if they're going to go all kind of answers that next, right? He says justice Pharaoh is the object of this rap.

Why? I like these passages of scripture. These are these are right from Exodus. I've I've just read this past week and he really says an Exodus chapter 9, but for this purpose, I have raised you up. To show you my power so that my name, maybe what proclaimed in all the Earth? And then an Exodus chapter 10, he says the same thing, then the Lord said to Moses, go into therapy. I have hardened his heart and the Heart of his servants that I may show the size of mine among them. And that you may tell in the hearing of your sons and your grandson, how I have dealt harshly with the Egyptians and what signs have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord, and we're going to go back to that in a second. But we see here in this passage of scripture, God's power. This Dumas. This inherent power of God is Proclaim to the whole Earth by his dealings with Farrah. So why did God even allow pharaoh to live? Corey may be amazing in Jericho how their spies were told how they heard about God's power and how they delivered him and Israelites. Yes, I will harden, Pharaoh's heart and he doesn't just control our, he controls. Everybody. Who do you know, God's mercy and, and hardens whomever he chooses. All right. So, how are we to understand the statement in the light of God's character? So the word pardon Is that necessarily mean to exert a positive influence. Listen to me carefully, but more likely to leave a sitter to his own course. And a place him in the circumstances with a character will be more and more developed. So it is probably a more of an inactivity of God's part as opposed to an activity. What does God do? We all are born with hard Hearts, right? So what does God do? God in veins, are hard heart and veins or depravity with his Mercy. All right, but what's going on with that, too? With that idea. It is clear that when God hardens the heart of a person who has hardened himself against his maker. God cannot be accused of being unjust. Call me a times removed his restraint from an individual bus, allowing him to exercise the full extent of his depravity. Think about this, we seen the world in all its evil isn't as evil as it could, possibly be restraint is even on the world.

Is restraint on this world yet. If God removes that restraint and what happens to the full extent of depravity takes over and we get to see the evilness for what it is. So when God hardened his heart, he removed the restraint that he has won them from being super hard at the holy spirit. Is it?

I'm reading injured right now. Okay, around. That's right. You are restraining it. That's right. Remove the head and he will curse. Just think about.

The world and will look at it. And you say all that's horrible and evil. God. Where are you guys right there in the midst of it gives restraining the evil. It is a matter pertaining to God's Own willpower and eternal decree. So how do we get wrecked our minds around the stuff? I constantly go to the book of Deuteronomy. 29:29. Listen to this carefully, get this in your mind, the secret things belong to the. Lord our God. The things that are revealed and our children forever that we may do all the words of God.

God, secret decrease live with God alone, and we have no right to them.

And not that person. It's a secret thing of God, right. As a right to that. So what are we supposed to do with all this? And they belong to us and our children, the TV channel bet. So, you know what? Don't have even as engineers. We don't have to know why. God chose. This person's. Didn't choose that person. Why God raised up pharaoh and didn't race up that person. You know, we don't have to know that. That's a part of God's secret. Decretive will So what are we responsible for? All the guns declared, his will kiss word. You see creation out there. There's a God, he have his word. What are we supposed to do with it? Read it, the Claret. Obey it. That's the reveal party.

Call up in the things that are secret to God and we think we got it know it is never going to show us those things. Let's relax. And let God be God. Let us do what we're supposed to do.

Don't see the whole thing. We don't.

Understand that there's going to be a problem with that. Right to choose the object of his mercy and his rap. So against opposition to this supposed character flaws, right? And that's what you saying. If it is true, why are there still people being blamed for their sins?

Question, right. So no words. If God doesn't Quicken and make that person alive or show Mercy to that person. Why is he still being blamed it? Because his dad? So why?

Well, pull those facts.

God strong. What did he say? How did the answer man is to convert 20? Man is a creature of God. First 20 man is unqualified to understand the subject. Okay. I just read verse 20. I think this is amazing. But you are you old man. I love this. Pull up and try to call the great. Logician, right? He he gives his conclusions. He's very smart or intelligent. But at this point, Paul just says this.

Who are you a man to answer back to God? Will, what is molded? Say to the motor? Why have you made me like this back in yesterday of these clay vessels that were on top of the pulpit? Actually, that would have been beautiful to put your that go Falls right into what gods do. Why is some of them just look like a piece of clay and others look like beautiful tea cups because of the Potter who made them had sovereignty over those pieces of clay. How many times do we question disc? But when we have one of our children, we stay because I'm the dad. That's exactly the same thing, but just trust me.

Exact same thing.

Up there next week. I'm obviously not going to get through this, but I want you to understand the arguments that tall is using both of these arguments. Are they rely on the fact that God is merciful? God is Sovereign, we don't understand it. He has a secret of Will and we're just to obey those things that have been revealed to us and let God be God. Brought up Joe, but the final versus God says, Where Were You joke? When I created everything, that's exactly why. I thank you that you are sovereign. You are. In control you were over everything. Father, the very That you would have mercy on us and love us and choose us. We can't let it bother. We just thank you so much for your love for us. We thank you for the Lord, Jesus Christ, who died for us. We thank you for the Holy Spirit. That's been given to us. But other we are a part of a trinitarian plan to save us though. We are nothing, but we are. Nobody's we thank you Father. We praise you. We worship. You help our minds to be focused on you and give you worship and praise and live. Our lives in obedience to you as a result. We pray in Jesus name. Amen, the Lord willing. We'll see you next week.
