Peter told the lame man: But what i do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene - Walk!
He got up. praising God and entered the temple.
People recognized him.
Acts 3:11 NASB95
11 While he was clinging to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them at the so-called portico of Solomon, full of amazement.
Clinging: This man wasn’t praising Peter and John. He was praising God. But he knew these two men had something different: that all the other “men of God” that had come through that gate before.
Also, he may have known there were going to be questions: and he really didn’t know anything.
The people were gathering.
Acts 3:12 NASB95
12 But when Peter saw this, he replied to the people, “Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this, or why do you gaze at us, as if by our own power or piety we had made him walk?
Kind of a dumb question.
Acts 3:13 NASB95
13 “The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus, the one whom you delivered and disowned in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him.
A very Jewish OT description of the Father.
Servant / son
Acts 3:14 NASB95
14 “But you disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,
Acts 3:15 NASB95
15 but put to death the Prince of life, the one whom God raised from the dead, a fact to which we are witnesses.
Ouch!
Acts 3:16 NASB95
16 “And on the basis of faith in His name, it is the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man whom you see and know; and the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all.

Education

Acts 3:17 NASB95
17 “And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers did also.
Ignorance : Agnoi (where we get agnostic) not have information.
Acts 3:18 NASB95
18 “But the things which God announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled.
Isaiah 53:5–6 NASB95
5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. 6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.
The Response
Repent and return
Acts 3:19–20 NASB95
19 “Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; 20 and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you,
About Jesus
Acts 3:21 NASB95
21 whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time.
Acts 3:22–26 NASB95
22 “Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed to everything He says to you. 23 ‘And it will be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ 24 “And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days. 25 “It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ 26 “For you first, God raised up His Servant and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.”
You sinned because of ignorance, but the Truth will set you free.

Ignorance is dangerous

Acts 3:17 NASB95
17 “And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers did also.
When we look at the history of slavery in this country we tend to judge historical events by today’s standards.
Slavery based on racial grounds is bad. So everyone that accepted slavery as we know it had to be bad. If we don’t distance ourselves from that we are bad.
There were people in that south that were morally upright people. How could they support the enslavement of an entire race of people?
They were ignorant. Evil people spread the lie that the slaves were less than human. That a black man’s life is not worth as much as a white man’s life.
How do you get a bunch of morally upright Germans to stand by and watch the slaughter of millions of Jews?
Evil people convinced them that the Jews are less than human. That they were just animals and that their live’s were worth less than that of a non jews life.
How do you get morally upright people to believe that abortion is the mothers choice and that the is nothing wrong with it?
Evil people convince them that an unborn fetus is somehow worth less than that of a person that is outside the womb. That he/or she is less than human until they are born.
Three biggest lies that will keep you out of the kingdom.
Everyone sins so your sin isn’t that bad.
Repent and return.
Other peoples sin is worse than yours, so when you get done helping everyone else concur their sin, you will take on your own.
Repent and return
God isn’t really concerned that much with your sin.
Repent and return.
