To begin with particular questions were asked, what does the term Mercy mean and what is Being Merciful like and exactly what is The Mercy of God.
1. The word Mercy in the Greek vernacular is the word Eleos and in the context of the passage in Mark 10:48 the word Mercy is eleeo and it means to have pity and compassion on also to receive and obtain mercy for.
2. Being Merciful is an act of kindness bestowed upon someone who knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are guilty and deserve to be punished or even experience death.
3. The mercy of God describes his focused disposition of compassionate forgiveness toward his people, especially in light of their distressful and dire circumstances. Also: Compassion; Forgiveness; Long-suffering; and Patience
Mark 10:46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 48 Have you ever cried out to God in an un-orthodoxed way in church in your community, in your home or on your job? I bet if you did people would think you’ve loss your everlasting mind, gone stone crazy.. Loco… loss it .... fell off the wagon… flipped out… flashed out... and popped off… yeah yeah yeah that’s what it was like for blind bartemaeus look at verse 48 and let’s see what people would think.... And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. “They said be quiet but the blind man said, Man I know y’all. Y’all ain’t never done nothing to help me out of this situation. I’ve rattled this tin can for years… I’ve heard what you been saying about me when you walk off whispering… I heard you saying I look bad smell bad have raggely clothes and that I beg too much. But y’all not going too stop me from getting my Blessing. 49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee. Don’t stop petitioning the throne of God until you get the answer
to what you’ve been asking for.
50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus. The garment was probably raggely anyway, so it’s symbolic of the faith that the blind man had to getting his healing.
51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. In other words don’t give me creature comforts like money or food or clothes or or shoes or shelter but give me the capacity to create my own wealth, make my own living, live in my own house, have my own job, find my own wife have my own family and get me off this corner begging for bread. That’s what I want Jesus thou Son of David.
52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
“If you want something from the Lord, you’ve got believe that God is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. And you can’t have any doubt.” Eleeos Lord have Mercy on me. That’s only one picture illustration of Mercy there are many many more.
The answer to the second question of Being merciful is found in the book of Luke 18:9
So again Being merciful is an act of kindness bestowed upon someone who knows beyond the shadow of a doubt that they are guilty and deserve punishment or even experience death. Let’s read the text in Luke 18:9.
And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The implication here is that there are two types of people. Inward people and outward people show boaters and quiet discreet type of people. Loud and boisterous and humble and meek types of people. but make no mistake about it, these two people re as far as night from the day. We have the self-righteous and the low self esteemed let’s see what the word says about them. In verse
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
Hold up hold up you can be judging me!!! Trying to be justifiably holy. When the bible says that there is none that is right no not one. All have come short of the glory of God. Nobody!!! None of us ain’t all that right!!!!
look at what the pharisee says in verse 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. Well ain’t nothiing wrong with doing your do diligence towards God and His chuurch and His Pastor but Not at the expense of putting someone else down!!! It’s got people in this world that will use you as a stepping stone to move up the ladder of success. But I always say be careful how you treat the people on your way up the ladder because that just might be the same people you’ll need on your way down that same ladder.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. Lord be Merciful to me a sinner!!! We know it’s not about his money, because the publican has more money than the pharisee. The Sadducees were the rich self righteous individuals. So it wasn’t about money. No No it was about integrity. I’m not going to let you make me feel like I’m less than you. The poor Publican (I mean poor in spirit) didn’t even raise up his head, in fact he didn’t even know that the Pharisee was talking about him in his heart. Which goes to show you that you don’t really know what people are really thinking about… People can be smiling in your face and hating you behind your back.
Jesus say for us to be careful not to judge somebody based on the outward appearance. Ladies just because he’s tall dark and handsome doesn’t mean that he’s a BMW and fellows just because she’s fine as all out doors doesn’t mean that she can fry an egg for breakfast. She’ll have you living out of a fast food bag for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So don’t be so quick to judge.. Listen I don’t know you well enough to be the judge and jury over your life because the bible says only God truly knows the heart. and the spirit that is within a man or a woman.
Last verse look at 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. I’d rather be asked up that smacked down.
Lk 18:9–14.to forgive — verb. to stop blaming or taking an offense into account.
to show mercy — verb. to show leniency and compassion toward something or someone.
compassion — noun. a deep awareness of and sympathy for another’s suffering.
to show compassion — verb. to show kindness or forgiveness toward.
kindness (act) — noun. a kind act.
The third question to be answered is what is the Mercy of God The Mercy of God describes His focused disposition of compassionate forgiveness towards His people, especially in light of their distressful and dire circumstances.
I’m so glad that God’s Mercies are new and fresh each and everyday. And I’m also glad that His Mercy endures forever. I’m so glad that God doesn’t cut off His mercy when He gets to me.In 2 Chr:7:-1 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house. 2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD’s house. 3 And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.
In order to get a full picture of the brevity of the situation you’ll have to look at chapters 5& 6 and began at King Solomon’s prayer to God for the People their sins and for the massive Temple that he built for the worship of the Lord. Here are some key elements of Solomon’s prayer.
Solomon had finished building the Temple and brought in all the furnishings of gold and sliver and filled the treasury of the House of the Lord.
2 Solomon got all the chiefs of the tribes of Israel together and had the Levites bring in the Ark of the Covenant to the Holy of Holies where the Ten Commandments are housed.
3. The priest sanctified themselves and dressed in white linen and played music praising and thanking God saying For He is Good For His Mercy endures forever. The priest praised so hard until they glory of the lord showed up and they had stop ministering. That’s called slain in the spirit.2 chronicles 5:14
4.Solomon speaks and makes declaration of blessings on the whole assembly of Israel and all of Israel stood Blessed be the LORD God of Israel who has fulfilled just what He said He would do to my father David. And Solomon gives a history lesson of how God delivered Israel from Egypt and that Jerusalem would be the place of worship.
5.David couldn’t build the Temple because he had too much blood on his hands but his son Solomon was anointed to build God’s House.
6. Solomon built a 7 1/2 ft wide by 7 1/2ft wide by 3ft high platform and knelt down bowed down and began to pray to God and petition to God on behalf of the people of Israel saying Lord when they pray in this temple you’ll hear them won’t you Lord? And even if they are capture because of their disobedience if they Pray looking towards Jerusalem and this temple you’ll hear them won’t you Lord?
7. Solomon said if they sin Lord you’ll show me how to execute judgement correctly won’t you Lord. If the rain dry up or famine or pestilence or blight or mildew or locust or grasshoppers come because of their sins if they pray to you Lord you’ll forgive them of their sins and send restoration back won’t you Lord?
8.Solomon says arise Oh Lord God to your resting place You and the ark of your strength. Let Your priests be clothed in salvation and let Your saints rejoice in goodness.and Solomon ends chapter 6 by saying O Lord God, do not turn away the face of Your Anointed and remember the mercies of Your servant David.
9. And the bible says when Solomon finished praying to God FIRE came down from heaven and consumed the burn offering and the sacrifices and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. God show up show out and showed off so much until the priests couldn’t enter into the house of the Lord . The glory of the Lord was soooooo Powerful and soooo strong until the priest couldn’t come close to it. And when all of the children of Israel saw the fire come down from heaven and the glory filling the House of the Lord they bowed down and worshipped God
