Intro

just like Revelation- this is the beginning of the end
going into the belly of the beast
the week leading up to the passion

Colt

when they arrive in the Jerusalem suburbs- sends disciples ahead to prepare the entry
find a colt/donkey- humble symbol of peace and Lordship
the Greek and what they actually said likely differ- more literally save us now Messiah
they believe this is the beginning of Jesus taking his rightful place and they are both correct and incorrect
the Pharisees still do not believe
reference to Ezekiel- the very stones would cry out- all of creation knows that this is who I truly am

Cleansing

Jesus weeps and foretells of the destruction of Jerusalem
drives out those who are making the outer circle of the temple a marketplace
the temple has a very important history- it was begun by David, destroyed and begun again by Zerubbabel
It is the idea of where God resides and Jesus is soon to become that
Though it will happen to the end of time, God does not seek to be used for personal physical gain
God’s very presence is being interrupted

Challenges

over and over again about anything they could think of
in all of it they could find no opportunity to turn the crowd against him
He is the Messiah and there is nothing anyone can do about it
the same yesterday today and forever- giving love and life and light at every turn

Application

The elite who wanted to hold onto their power tried so hard to show that Jesus was just another insurrectionist who wanted to take their power
they wanted Jesus to be anything but what he was- fully loving and caring for all of those he could find, seeking to bring people into a relationship with God
The world still tries to do the same and even you and I if we are not careful can find ourselves doing the same thing
every instance in which I carry the name of Christ and refuse to show who he is or worse, do harm to his creation, I am no better than the Priests trying to make him worthless for my own gain
Does Jesus reign in your life and through it or are you trying to get everyone else to not make a scene about him?
