Jesus Is The True And Better Prophet

Acts 3:22–26 NASB95
22 “Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed to everything He says to you. 23 ‘And it will be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ 24 “And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days. 25 “It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ 26 “For you first, God raised up His Servant and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.”
Intro:
As the King, He takes our rebellion and gives us restoration. (David was an adulterer) A restorer
As the Priest, He takes our rejection and gives us reconciliation. (Aaron was an idolater) A reconciler
Scapegoat and Ark
As the Prophet, He takes our religion and gives us revelation. (Moses was a murderer) A deliverer

Big Idea: All former prophecy was pointing us to Jesus. He is both the fulfillment of prophecy and the truest of all prophets. Jesus isn’t just a prophet He is the prophecy.

Who speaks for and as God, so repent from indifference and listen to Him. (22)

Acts 3:22–23 NASB95
22 “Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed to everything He says to you. 23 ‘And it will be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’
Main Point:Jesus not only spoke for God but as God. Jesus message was a full and complete message with ultimate authority. His gospel is truth and must be heard and shared. We must accept Him as Savior.
“Most Christians don’t hear God’s voice because we’ve already decided we aren’t going to do what He says.” -A.W. Tozer
Alot of our unhappiness in life can be traced back to when we listened to the wrong things…we listened to others, we listened to ourselves, but we failed to listen to God.
Satan’s biggest stronghold is a home where God’s Word is never heard. Make sure the Devil has to climb over alot of Scripture to get to your family!
Illustration: While watching a football game at a relative’s house, someone was sitting way in the back of the room and couldn’t hear the play-by-play.
They grabbed a remote and tried to turn the volume up…nothing happened. The TV was fine, the remote was fine, they were just too far away.
We can’t turn up the volume of God’s Voice when we are far away from God’s Word.
Hebrews 3:3–8 NASB95
3 For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house. 4 For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. 5 Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later; 6 but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house—whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end. 7 Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, Today if you hear His voice, 8 Do not harden your hearts as when they provoked Me, As in the day of trial in the wilderness,
Matthew 17:5 NASB95
5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”

Who comes from and as God, so repent from idolatry and follow Him. (23-24)

Acts 3:24 NASB95
24 “And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days.
Main Point: As God, Jesus not only requires our ears but our hands and feet. We must obey Him as Lord.
Deuteronomy 18:17–19 NASB95
17 “The Lord said to me, ‘They have spoken well. 18 ‘I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. 19 ‘It shall come about that whoever will not listen to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him.
An idol is anything you love, fear, or serve more than God.
Idolatry is not only worshiping false gods, it can also be worshiping the true God in false ways.
If it makes you feel good, but dishonors God…IS IT REALLY TRUE WORSHIP?
The question is never “will I worship?”, we never stop worshiping. So, the question is always “what will I worship…the Creator or something He created?”
Illustration: When I was little, we would go out to eat at Ryan’s Steakhouse. They had anything and everything on that buffet.
However, my mom would pack me a snack JUST IN CASE, I couldn’t find something to eat on the 20 mile long buffet!!!
That’s what we do. We keep idols packed away JUST IN CASE we feel like the buffet of God’s love won’t satisfy us…
We hang on to certain people, places, or things, JUST IN CASE we ever feel empty and hungry for fulfillment.
True FULFILLMENT will only be found when we begin to truly FOLLOW Jesus.

Who blesses and curses as God, so repent from immorality and obey Him. (25-26)

Main Point: As God, Jesus can bless or curse. Jesus came to give us a better way, deliverance from sin. If we will believe and repent we will be spared.
Deuteronomy 28:1–2 NASB95
1 “Now it shall be, if you diligently obey the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2 “All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey the Lord your God:
Deuteronomy 28:15 NASB95
15 “But it shall come about, if you do not obey the Lord your God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I charge you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:
We think Immorality is a person's specific sins that must be REGULARLY CHECKED ON; Immorality is a person’s sin nature that must be RADICALLY CHANGED.
“Immorality is to be FLED from, not FLIRTED with.” -Alistar Begg
What’s the use in asking God to bless us when our priorities are clearly not lined up with His? GOD WILL NEVER BLESS DISOBEDIENCE & IMMORALITY.
Illustration: On the highway, you are expected to choose one lane to drive in, though there may be lanes to your left and right. You are expected to stay in your lane.
If you swerve into the other lanes, you’re just an accident waiting to happen.
God’s Word gives you a lane to stay in, it’s called obedience.
STAY IN YOUR LANE, don’t swerve into immortality! If you do, then you’re just an accident waiting to happen.
Whenever there is an accident, there are innocent bystanders. KNOW THIS: Your immorality will wreck those closest to you.
If you are immoral, there is only one hope, and His Name is Jesus. “Hell is filled with sincere, religious people, who were never born again, and Heaven is filled with immoral people who repented and believed in Christ.” -Steve Lawson
Moses was mighty in deeds when it came to Israel’s deliverance from their enemy, Egypt.
Jesus was mighty to save when it came to our deliverance from our enemies: Sin, Death, Satan, and Hell.
There was a rock, which Moses struck and water flowed, delivering Israel from thirst.
Jesus is the Rock Who was struck and blood flowed, delivering us from death.
Moses lifted up the bronze serpent, and Israel was delivered from the poison of snakes.
The Cross lifted up the bruised Son, and we are now delivered from the poison of sin.
Blessing Under Moses, Abraham and Jesus
Moses’ glory is in the families of Israel obtaining the blessing of a promised land.
Abraham’s glory is in the families of Israel obtaining a blessing of a promised covenant.
Jesus’ glory is in the families of the earth obtaining the blessing of a promised salvation.
