Psalm 125 The Message
Those who trust in God are like Zion Mountain: Nothing can move it, a rock-solid mountain you can always depend on. Mountains encircle Jerusalem, and God encircles his people— always has and always will. The fist of the wicked will never violate What is due the righteous, provoking wrongful violence. Be good to your good people, God, to those whose hearts are right! God will round up the backsliders, corral them with the incorrigibles. Peace over Israel!
When you think of things that should be grounded in nature what are some things that you think of? I think of things like trees and mountains. I also think about houses, buildings and cars. But in a storm all of those things can be moved and tossed except that of a mountain. Mountains are sturdy through all types of weather, rather it is rain, snow, windstorms, sandstorms. They were created to stand strong through anything that comes its way. We to should be like that mountain and say I shall not be moved.
Today we are still talking about foundation, if you have one, how strong is it and how do you keep strong without it shaking out of control when trials and tribulations arise in your life? What hold you anchored down when the winds of the storm are blowing like they were last week and the week before? Trees blew over, buildings and houses were crushed yet lives were spared and the boulders did not move. They were solid and planted just has they were created to do.
The scripture tells us today to trust in the Lord like Mt. Zion. This is the mountain that sits just outside the walls of Jerusalem which is actually a hill outside of the city also known as the City of David. Now with that description just given, a hill how easy is that to be moved? We trust that in a mountain or a hill it will not be moved unless man moves it or it becomes corroded and falls. It stands strong even if it is sitting in water half above and half beneath.
Now, how do we stand strong in the Lord that created us and not be moved by they ways of this life and the things happening in such as police brutality, racism even on the highest court level of the country, unequal social economics, healthcare that is not available to those without jobs and even with jobs. How do we stand through all of this. The bible tells us today that we must stand and trust God just like the mountain of Zion that cannot and will not be moved. Trust in the Lord at time can be unnerving because we are not sure what the outcome of our situation we are in will come to be. Trust in God take faith in knowing what we have not seen will be there because he sees all and knows all that is going on in our lives and this world. We are not to be consumed by the cares of this world, but to put our faith in the one whom created all things even his children in his image.
We must have a solid relationship with Jesus. We cannot just be that fare-weather friend and come and go as we please in Jesus life when we need him to do something. We must have a two way communication and in that the one who should be doing the majority of the talking and directing is that of Jesus Christ. Relationships are what build trust and when you have built that trust with Jesus you shall not be moved by the ways of this world. What should happen is that your prayer life becomes stronger and your trust in God becomes unshakable. Trust in people is not what the word says we should do. We should not put our trust in man because man will let you down every time. The Word even says you should not even trust in your own understanding but to trust in the Lord with all your heart, yes?! Psalm 118:8
Psalm 118:8 The Message
Far better to take refuge in God than trust in people;
This is how we become solid in Christ Jesus.
And last, we must abide in God through his love in order to not be moved. This is how we will not be moved the things of this earth. We will be moved emotionally which we should for those in need and in turmoil at the hands of the oppressors, but we shall not be moved by the things of this earth the Bible assures us will come to pass. John 15:4-14
John 15:4–14 NRSV
Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.
When we abide in the love of Jesus Christ and have love for one another we all shall not be moved because we have been commanded by Jesus to stand for each other just like Mt. Zion that is not moved by man, wind or storms. Jesus Christ came and was not moved by anything that was placed before him by his oppressors. He stood the test of times even in the garden when he asked his father to take this cup from him, yet he said if it be thy will and God’s will that Jesus will not be moved from the call he was sent to fulfill. When we put our trust in God and abide him, he will surround us with his love and protection. Jesus was not moved when he went to cross, Jesus was not moved when he forgave those who placed him on the cross between two thieves. He was not moved when he called out to his father, It is finished. He was not moved until he rolled the stone away and moved to his glorified body. And yet Jesus still was not moved by what the people saw had taken place. I praise God for his strength, love and protection over us and to know that just like him we shall not be moved.
