Who God Is

Exodus 34:6–7 CSB

The Lord passed in front of him and proclaimed: The Lord—the Lord is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth, maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But he will not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation.

1. YHWH

I AM, I WILL BE; God will always be there for you. He will never change; you can always count on God to do exactly what he says he’s going to do

2. COMPASSIONATE

God loves you like a parent loves his kids. (Mommy love)

3. GRACIOUS

When you need help, God will be there to rescue you

4. SLOW TO ANGER

Long nostrils. God is patient; he will work through the hard times; doesn’t say he won’t get angry, but that he won’t turn his back on us when we fall short

5. FAITHFUL LOVE

Kindness, warmth, welcoming in

6. TRUTH

Not just honesty, but faithfulness. When God says he will do something, he will do it. You can trust him. You can count on him.

7. FORGIVING

There’s lots of stuff we do that will break relationships, hurt others, destroy ourselves, and keep us from God. But God will take that weight from us and keep it from crushing us, even if it means taking it upon himself.

8. JUSTICE

God will do whatever it takes to right the wrongs in this world, so that the whole world might know his faithful love.

The Bottom Line

God says that He is all about you. When God talks about who he is, it’s all about his love for you and how far he will go to reach you and rescue you. He will never give up.
