Honor Your Father & Mother

Ephesians 6:1–3 (ESV)

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

2 “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise),

3 “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”

God designed the home with a clearly defined order.

A rejection of the order within the home is a reject of the one who orders the home.

We honor God by honoring our parents.

We dishonor God by dishonoring our parents.

Obedience is not a suggestion.

The word obey is an imperative.

Obedience is an obligation.

The relationship between God and his people was presented in a Father/Son relationship.

The fifth commandment is not primarily about having a happy home.

The fifth commandment is about glorifying a Holy God.
