The Sins of Lust
Series: Week 1 of “The Works of the Flesh”
Date: 04/06/2022
Location: Wednesday Night Youth Group
Main Scripture Reference: Galatians 5:16-25
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

The Works of the Flesh
Week 1: The Sins of Lust
Week 2: The Sins of Evil
Week 3: The Sins of Defiance
----------------------------------
The Word Lust (epithymia) ἐπιθυμία
Sinful Longing
You can lust over anything
Lust is often associated today with physical lust
----------------------------------
First we will look at the specific sins of lust
Then we will look at the way to overcome them
Looking at Galatians 5:19, we will be going backwards in the order, because I believe it follows the order we usually commit these sins in.
Body
Body
1. The Lust of Lasciviousness (Gal 5:19)
1. The Lust of Lasciviousness (Gal 5:19)
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
----------------------------------------
The Word Lasciviousness
ἀσέλγεια (aselgeia) n. fem. self-abandonment.
A lack of control
Lust of the flesh begins with a lack of self control.
There will be times in your life when you will see a person, on a screen, at your school, in public, you will be attracted to them.
----------------------------------
Attraction is not a sin.
Sexual Attraction is not a sin.
God Created
Attraction
Sex
Sexual Attraction
God did not create lust.
-----------------------------------
How can you be attracted to someone without lusting after them.
Song of Solomon
A poor shulamite woman expresses her love and desire for sexual intimacy with king solomon
She does not act on this until marriage, and she does not try to act on this ahead of time, and it is not an unhealthy lustful obsession but rather an expression of her natural attraction
Attraction is only a sin when your desire is sinful
It is not wrong to desire to marry someone and in turn desire them physically, you should sexually desire a spouse, its not good if you don’t
It is wrong to desire sexual actions with them physically before marriage
It is not wrong to be physically attracted to a person
It is wrong to lust over thoughts of being sexual with them outside of marriage
Quote or Book Reference
Example: “Love can wait to give; it is lust that can’t wait to get.” - Josh Mcdowell
Personal Quote
Example: “Attraction becomes lust, when it becomes lasciviousness. When it loses control.”

Hammer: This hammer was created for a specific purpose. It has the strength, the weight, and the construction to hammer nails. But I could use this hammer to destroy the entire podium.
When you lose control of God’s tools, meant for good, they can cause immense damage.
When we use God’s tools they way they are designed, we stay pure and undamaged.
What happens when we don’t use God’s tools they way they are designed. Look at the next sin of lust.....
2. The Lust of Uncleanness (Gal 5:19)
2. The Lust of Uncleanness (Gal 5:19)
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
The Word Uncleanness
Lexham Theological Wordbook ἀκαθαρσία
ἀκαθαρσία (akatharsia). n. fem. uncleanness, impurity. Either ritual or moral impurity.
Dirty on the inside
Supporting Scripture to Back Up Passage
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
Do you ever feel dirty when you talk to God?
Do you ever feel dirty when you come to church?
Do you ever feel dirty when you read your Bible?
Do you feel dirty inside after you have spent time looking at pornography on your phone?
Do you feel dirty inside after you've had sex with your boyfriend or girlfriend?
Do you feel dirty inside after you've spent days lusting after some girl or guy at your school?
Do you feel dirty inside when your sending sexual pictures to someone.
If you feel dirty, it’s because you are unclean inside.
What does feeling unclean often lead to or is a result of....
3. The Sin of Fornication (Gal 5:19)
3. The Sin of Fornication (Gal 5:19)
Fornication means to have sex with someone you are not married to.
Supporting Scripture to Back Up Passage
For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
Concupiscence - a covetous lusting
Sexually desiring something that does not belong to you
Christian girls today will pull out their phone to post a bible verse after having sex with their boyfriend. Christian boys will come to church and preach with a pornographic internet tab opened on their phone in their pocket.
Hypocrites, that's what the Bible calls Christians like that.
If this is you does it mean God doesn’t love you, no, it means he’s disappointed in you, it means he is going to punish you, it means you will not be blessed, and it means he really desires you would stop it.
4. The Lust of Adultery (Gal 5:19)
4. The Lust of Adultery (Gal 5:19)
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
----------------------------------------
The Word Adultery
to be married and have sex with someone who isn’t your spouse
The order of adultery usually goes like this...
Lasciviousness - you lose control of your natural desires
Uncleanness - you begin internally sinning by obsessing over that person
Fornication - you engage in sexual activity with the person which is adultery
55% of marriages include adultery
You are statistically more likely to be cheated on by your spouse than you arent.
Statistically men are more likely to cheat for sexual gratification.
Women are more likely to cheat for emotional attachment.
One of the number one problems men have with spouses, lack of sexual commitment.
One of the number one problems women have with spouses, lack of emotional commitment.
Girls, your future husbands need that physical sexual commitment.
Guys your future wife needs that emotional commitment.
The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.
“Marriages on rarely end in adultery when both couples are close sexually, emotionally, and are aligned spiritually.”

How does the Christian overcome sins of lust.
Walk in the Spirit
Read your bible
Be obedient
Go to Church
Ask God for help
Love Jesus
YOU WILL NOT FALL INTO LUSTFUL SIN IF YOUR LOVE FOR JESUS IS GREATER THAN YOUR DESIRE FOR SATISFACTION.
Crucify the Flesh
In principle the battle for your victory over sin has already been won. Your sinful flesh was nailed to the cross. In practice, YOU MUST LIVE THAT WAY
STOP GOING BACK TO THE BATTLEFIELD TO RELIVE THE WAR, THE VICTORY HAS ALREADY BEEN SECURED YET OVER AND OVER AGAIN WE DESIRE TO GO BACK AND FIGHT IT SOMEWHERE.
LEAVE IT ON THE CROSS
WALK IN THE SPIRIT
CLAIM YOUR VICTORY OVER SINS OF LUST
