“Redigging The wells of Revival” (John 12:)
We are in the middle of a series entitled “Redigging the wells of revival”
In every revival we experience a fresh revelation of Jesus!
Revival begins in our hearts.
Our prayer is that you will have a fresh revelation of Jesus during this series.
The gospel of john was the last one written, John was very clear why he wrote another gospel.
Joh 20:30 Now there are many other wonder-works which Jesus performed in the disciples' presence which are not recorded in this book.
Joh 20:31 But these have been recorded, in order that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life, as bearers of His name.
Today we are on chapter 12 of John (12-19)
The Final week of Jesus life, before His death and resurrection, and we are only on the half of the book of John, John dedicated half of his book to present that final week.
Jesus until this moment told people to be quiet, when he did a miracle, delivered, or healed them.
This is “The triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem”, this is the first time that He introduces himself as their messiah and King publicly.

Joh 12:12 The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
Jesus just came from Bethany into Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover, one of the 3 mandatory feasts, for Jews to come to Jerusalem, Sukkot (the pilgrimage festival, time in the wilderness), Pesach (Passover) and Shavuot (Torah given to Moses).
The city was filled with visitors
According to Flavius Josephus
256 thousand lambs were sacrificed in Jerusalem during the Passover, it was about1 lamb per family or a group of 10 people, so about 2.5 million people were in town according to Josephus.
They would camp out anywhere they could find a place, a very crowded place, if they had family they would stay with family, hospitality was everywhere, they came together to celebrate.
Joh 12:13 took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: "Hosanna!
'BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!' The King of Israel!"
Psa 118:26 Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the LORD; We have blessed you from the house of the LORD [you who come into His sanctuary under His guardianship].
The 10th of the Hebrew month of Nisan, in the Julian Calendar, the 6 of April of 32 AD.
This happened On the same day when Jewish families would select a lamb without spot or defect to be sacrificed on the 14th day of Nisan for the Passover.
Exodus 12:3
Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: "On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household.
Exodus 12:5-6
Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year.
You may take it from the sheep or from the goats.
Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month.
Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight.
They pick up branches and shouted hosanna
They took palm branches John gives the psalm they were coating psalms 118.
The idea of palm branches goes back a couple hundred years in their history,
When there was a struggle with the Jewish people for their independence, the Maccabean revolt gave them their independence
200 -250 BC was a Syrian King Antiochus the IV he called himself Antiochus Epiphanes, in Greek “I’m god manifest”, humility was not his strong point, Antiochus hated the Jews, persecute the Jews killed them, The Jews had their own nick name for him, Antiochus Epimanes “the mad man”, and the Jews hated him.
The Maccabean revolt overturned him and threw them out, and they celebrate this event with a feast called “Hanukkah”.
When Judas Maccabeus and his brother were successful the people broth up palm branches to celebrate.
Bringing them out again was their way of saying we hope this deliverance is like that one, you are our Messiah, save us now, it was not the prayer, “Jesus save me be my Lord and savior” but save us now from the Rome empire our enemy of today, overturn them.
Joh 12:14 Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written:
Joh 12:15 "FEAR NOT, DAUGHTER OF ZION; BEHOLD, YOUR KING IS COMING, SITTING ON A DONKEY'S COLT."
Zec 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O Daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your King (Messianic King) is coming to you; He is righteous and endowed with salvation, Humble and unassuming [in submission to the will of the Father] and riding on a donkey, Upon a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Jesus is the King, the promised Messiah but at this time He came to deal with sin and death.
He came in peace,
Is part of History that if a king would come in peace he would come on a donkey.
Jesus wanted them to see that He was the promised Messiah.
Luke recorded this way
Luk 19:29 When He approached Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called Olivet, He sent two of the disciples, [Mat_21:1-9; Mar_11:1-10; Joh_12:12-15]
Luk 19:30 saying, "Go into the village ahead of you; there, as you enter, you will find a [donkey's] colt tied, on which no one has ever sat.
Untie it and bring it here.
Luk 19:31 If anybody asks you, 'Why are you untying the colt?' you will say, 'The Lord needs it.'"
Luk 19:32 So those who were sent left and found the colt just as He had told them.
Luk 19:33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, "Why are you untying the colt?"
Luk 19:34 They said, "The Lord needs it."
Luk 19:35 They brought it to Jesus, and they threw their robes over the colt and put Jesus on it.

So they were greatly disappointed, Judas Iscariot the zealot, one of his disciples was one of them.
Jesus came to go to the cross in our place, to die our death and to conquer death, now all power and authority is His and His name is above any other name.
When He comes the second time, He will come for war, He will separate good from evil, He will punish the evil one and all those who follow him.
Rev 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who was riding it is called Faithful and True (trustworthy, loyal, incorruptible, steady), and in righteousness He judges and wages war [on the rebellious nations].
They wanted the deliverance now, “Save us now”, as we all know a few days later the same crowed was shouting crucify Him.
Is always easier to shout with the crowed than to stand at the cross and do what is right.
Joh 12:16 His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.
We don’t understand everything but more time we spend with Jesus more He will help us to understand, all the sudden our eyes are open, we can see.
Joh 12:17 Therefore the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead, bore witness.
Joh 12:18 For this reason the people also met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign.
People wanted to see Jesus, this man has authority and power they have not seen before, they wanted to take a selfie with Jesus, if they could, the common people loved him, the blue-collar worker, He was simple just like them.
They were very excited, Mark recorded this way,
Mar 11:8 And many [of the people] spread their coats on the road [as an act of tribute and homage before a new king], and others [scattered a layer of] leafy branches which they had cut from the fields [honoring Him as Messiah].
[2Ki_9:13]
Mar 11:9 Those who went in front and those who were following [Him] were shouting [in joy and praise], "Hosanna (Save, I pray)!
BLESSED (praised, glorified) IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD! [Psa_118:26]
Mar 11:10 "Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!
Hosanna in the highest [heaven]!"
Joh 12:19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, "You see that you are accomplishing nothing.
Look, the world has gone after Him!"
On the 10th of Nisan
Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem
Luk 19:41 As He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it [and the spiritual ignorance of its people],
He weeps over Jerusalem, loudly, he sobbed, wailed
Luk 19:42 saying, "If [only] you had known on this day [of salvation], even you, the things which make for peace [and on which peace depends]!
But now they have been hidden from your eyes.
Luk 19:43 For a time [of siege] is coming when your enemies will put up a barricade [with pointed stakes] against you, and surround you [with armies] and hem you in on every side, [Isa_29:3; Jer_6:6; Eze_4:2]
Luk 19:44 and they will level you to the ground, you [Jerusalem] and your children within you.
They will not leave in you one stone on another, all because you did not [come progressively to] recognize [from observation and personal experience] the time of your visitation [when God was gracious toward you and offered you salvation]."
He was holding the nation of Israel accountable; this is the day of your visitation.
Daniel’s prophecy, Daniel 9, gave them the exact day when Jesus would enter Jerusalem, if you add the weeks and years from the time of Artaxerxes commanded the restoration of Jerusalem
March 14 445 BC you will get to
April 06 32 AD, God is always exact
There were no coincidence, Jesus the King was coming into Jerusalem
Sometimes I don’t understand God’s timing, but He wants us to know that He is always on time.
We know now that Jesus prophecy that day was fulfilled in 70 AD
The siege of Jerusalem in the year 70 CE was the decisive event of the First Jewish–Roman War, in which the Roman army captured the city of Jerusalem and destroyed both the city and its Temple.
The Roman army, led by the future Emperor Titus, with Tiberius Julius Alexander as his second-in-command, besieged and conquered
What is important is that we don’t miss the times, we have an open invitation to come into the arms of our Heavenly Father, don’t wait until is too late.
3 things John wanted to clarify and is very important for us as we continue redigging wells of revival
1 Jesus is our promised Messiah and king
2 Jesus is the lamb of God who came to take way our sins
