Behold, Your King is Coming!

The Character of the King

The Triumphal entry was done in fulfillment of Zech 9:9-11 “9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.”

He is righteous (just) because he conforms to God’s standard (He is God, and therefore the standard).

He is humble and lowly. He comes bringing salvation and deliverance by His covenant.

Matthew 11:28-30 “28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.””

The Response to the King

Some were ignorant of the King - Matt 21:10 “And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?””

Some rejected the King - Luke 19:39-40 “And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.””

Some worshipped the King - Hosanna! (Save now I pray!). They saw that he was the rightful King and the one to sit on David’s throne!

Some freely gave their resources to the King for His glory.

They gave their outer garments for the entrance of the king!

The owners of the donkey gave up their possessions and resource for the king.

It was accessible - it was tied up at the door in the street, not out back.

It was available for the Master’s use - they willingly let his disciples take them.
