Expectation Management

Start off with some expectation management - Brother Don likes to tell jokes, dad jokes and puns

Any new Believers? withing the last year? I probably have nothing new to say that you haven't already heard from Brother Don or others - God can always work miracles.

What is Palm Sunday About?

Mt 21:1-11, Mk 11:1-10, Lk 19: 28-40, Jn 12:12-19

Jn 12:12–18 12 The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. 13 They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting,

“Hosanna!”

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” u

“Blessed is the king of Israel!”

14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:

15 “Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion;

see, your king is coming,

seated on a donkey’s colt.” w

16 At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him. 17 Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word. 18 Many people, because they had heard that he had performed this sign, went out to meet him.

All 4 gospels reference “King”

John a couple times 13 “Blessed is the king of Israel!”

Mark 11:10 “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!”

Luke 19:38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”

Matthew 21 (Zechariah (prophet)) reference See, your king comes to you,

Hosanna - “save, we pray.”

The people of the time were accurate in there spirits and hearts to do and say what they did. We soon found out what their expectations were when what they were hoping for did not happen the way they want it to happen. ​

Expectations: Idea of What the people of the time thought Palm Sunday was about?

The Idea of Jesus coming to town to become king was exciting. This would mean they would no longer have to suffer under Caesars or the Priests rule any longer. This idea of Jesus is what they were excited about. ​

What are our expectations of Jesus?

If you want to find where you expectations are in life, look for “SHOULD BE’s’.Or That is not fair.

Should be’s are a sign that you have specific expectations that are not happening. When expectation are not happening the way you think they should you will be unhappy. ​

The same crowd that cheered on Jesus entering into the city was either no where to be found or silent. It was the idea of Jesus coming into the city to save their lives (conquering king) that moved them to the a surface level of love.​

Pilate John 18:36 NASB9536 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.”

Why did he come? Not to be king to conquer the Romans.

We are blessed with the Bible that tells us - Luke 19:10 (NIV)

10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Why? Love

My understanding and use of the word love

1 John 4:8 NIV

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

So to is Jesus, he taught us much about loving one another.

What is Palm Sunday about for us?

Palm Sunday is about abiding in Jesus love for you, so you can be of His Kingdom He talked so much about. Palm Sunday is not about this idea of Jesus coming to save us from problems. Pam Sunday was about Jesus coming to our world to bring His transforming love to us and then through us. ​

Jesus is inviting us to a deep level of love with Him. He is not satisfied with a surface level relationship.Jesus wants to love you in a way that causes you to become His Love manifested in flesh form.
