How many of you have a favorite super hero or have a favorite super hero movie?
My favorite superhero movie is definitely Avengers Endgame. It was the best cinematic experience of my entire life but 2nd to that was definitely Spiderman No way Home. They brought back my Spiderman Toby Maguire, like that movie was everything to me.
But the reason I liked Endgame is because so much happened that built up to that movie. It was all about this super villain Thanos, whose desire was end world hunger and bring prosperity by removing 50% of the population of the universe. And he did it! In Endgame, there was only one way that this problem could be fixed and that is if they got the infinity stones and snapped everyone back to existence. However, the problem was that whoever would snap would suffer. So they had the Hulk snap everyone back and he darn near lost his arm but he lived. Thanos came to earth from the past, and his new mission was to destroy the entire universe and create it from scratch. Now the mission was to kill Thanos and his army. And Tony Stark did it and completed the task, but when he did it, he died.
transition to God:
The issue was so big, the mission was so important and necessary, that it was worth sacrificing a life so that many could live.

When we think about this word savior, I think of a person who knows that there is a huge need and is willing to die in order for a solution to happen.
When it comes to knowing Jesus as our savior, it’s important to understand a couple of things, one, what is our need? And how did Jesus really fix this need?
Matthew 1:18–21 (ESV)
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
Question 1: What is the need?
Answer: Our need is to be saved from sin.
Sin is something that separates us from God. We who live in Sin, live separately from God and the consequence of that is to then exist eternally separate from God.
Sin is not something that we can just freely walk away from because we are slaves to sin. Our only choice in life is to sin, and there is no way we can break free from that.
Our need is to be set free from sin. Sin is universal and is placed upon every single person with the capacity to make rational decisions.
If you have broken one of the ten commandments before:
- lied no matter how big or small
- stolen something regardless of its value
- dishonored your parents
- had sexual thoughts toward someone
- hated someone
Then you are in sin and are in great need.
There is nothing that you can do to save yourself, you can’t out do the bad by doing something good. You don’t go to court for stealing something and say to the judge, yeah but I volunteered at a soup kitchen, I helped my friend with their homework, I went to a mission trip my church had.
Let me tell you something.
If God were to judge me for being a youth pastor, I would go to Hell.
Why? Because we are not judged because of what we do, we are judged because of we have not been saved from our sin.
Question 2: What did Jesus do about this?
Answer: He died for us and rose again so that we can be saved.
2 Corinthians 5:21 tells us what his death and resurrection accomplish
2 Corinthians 5:21 (ESV)
21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
So we sinners, become righteous! Like some dirty gym clothes get washed and now they smell good like a forest in Utah during the fall!
This allows us to have a personal and intimate relationship with God. Our sins are forgiven, our wrongs are made right, our burdens taken from us so that we can have peace.
Jesus cleans you, removes your shame, removes your guilt and makes you part of His family!
Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we can have life abundantly.
And one day when Jesus comes back which may happen in our lifetimes or after, we will be given a new body that will be like Jesus. We will be given a new home like the earth but without corruption. We will be able to come face to face with God without a barrier and without wishing we could just see Him and know He’s real. There will be nothing that can separate us from Him.
Transition to gospel Call
Listen to me, God wants you to be saved. You’ve heard some of our students explain what it means for Jesus to be their savior, what about you?
Today if you feel that pull to Jesus, we want to give you space to say yes to Him.
Maybe you’ve said to yourself man I said I’m Christian but I’ve made choices that has really messed me up, The Bible says that if you draw near to Him He will Draw near to you, there is nothing you can do that will separate you from Him.
If that’s you, I’m gonna ask you to do something pretty untraditional to our church, I want you to come forward so that I and our leaders can pray for you.
