I. Yahweh’s Unusual Battle Plan vs. 1-16
I. Yahweh’s Unusual Battle Plan vs. 1-16
A. Jericho looked like a ghost town from an old western.
B. Joshua didn’t fight for victory, he fought from victory and so do we!
C. They were to be silent, and only blow the ram horns. The ram horn is a picture of Yahweh’s provision, because of the ram in the thicket. Gen. 22:13-14
Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son.
Abraham called the name of that place The Lord Will Provide, as it is said to this day, “In the mount of the Lord it will be provided.”
D. The reason for the unusual battle plan, is its a spiritual battle plan. We fight against strongholds, that have a strong hold on us. II Cor. 10:3-5
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh,
for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.
We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,
Other ways of saying this is: “imaginations” (KJV) “pretension” (NIV) “lofty opinon” (ESV), “warped philosophies” (MSG)
E. Other times you’ve got to stay back, and stay strong, while you watch Yahweh work. I Cor. 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever.
II. Yahweh’s Provision for the Battle vs. 17-27
II. Yahweh’s Provision for the Battle vs. 17-27
A. The people of Jericho had temple prostitutes, they sacrificed their children, and worshipped snakes! They were under judgment. Israel was the instrument of judgment.
B. All except Rahab and those with her, because they repented!
C. The reason everything belonged to God, was for destruction.
D. The city was under a curse, and Joshua’s fame grew. When God is behind it we can live in victory, and fight from victory, if not we live under the curse of sin, or our fame grows as someone walking with God.
