everything, every aspect of life, from the family, to government, to science, literature, business,
And that is what Jesus is doing today as the gospel goes forth.
His resurrection was the start of a New Creation. A New Eden. A New Heavens and New Earth.
Usually when you hear that, you immediately think eternal state.
And when Christ returns, there will be a consummate New Heavens and New Earth.
Jesus will remove every trace and stain of sin forever and ever, and He will make all things perfectly new.
But in the Bible, the New Heavens and the New Earth is Covenantal language.
In Isaiah 51:16, God talks about establishing the Old Covenant with Israel, and He says “And I have put my words in your mouth and covered you in the shadow of my hand, establishing the heavens and laying the foundations of the earth, and saying to Zion, ‘You are my people.'
So when God establishes a Covenant, its like he is establishing the heavens and laying the foundations of the earth.
In this way, while we are waiting on the full consummation of the New Heavens and New Earth, there is a sense in which we are living in them now.
Because the New Heavens and New Earth Covenantally is the New Covenant Gospel Age.
The age where Jesus Christ, through the preaching of the gospel is making all things new.
Think of it like this. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
The old passing away and the new come is the same language used to talk about the New Heavens and New Earth.
So, every time someone gets saved, Jesus is creating a New Heavens and New Earth by starting with one small part of that New World.
He makes us New Creations, the beginnings of the New Heavens and New Earth.
In that moment the Master Gardener was saying to the world, sin is forgiven, the serpent is crushed, I will bring God’s Kingdom of Shalom, harmony and peace. I will save the world, and I will start right here where I rose from the dead.
Through the preaching of the gospel, everything, every aspect of life, from the family, to government, to science, literature, business, every aspect of culture and everything in this world will be consecrated to Christ.
Every time someone gets saved, Jesus is creating a New Heavens and New Earth. A New Creation. starting with mini New Creations.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
The old has passed away, the new has come is the same language used for the New Heavens and New Earth.
So these New Creations, born again believers, are born again to reign with Christ. To have dominion with Him under Him, by serving His Kingdom and His glory in everything they do just like God created us to in Eden.
And here’s what happens. As more and more people get saved, as the nations are discipled through the proclamation of the Gospel by the church, the world, as a whole, is transformed.
Sinful Families, cultures, and societies become godly families, cultures, and societies.
In other words, through salvation we are brought into a New Eden to enjoy all the blessings of God and as more people get saved the world itself is brought in to this New Eden as well.
Look at what Ezekiel 36:33-36 says. By the way this is immediately after God promises the New Covenant.
Ezekiel 36:33-36 Thus says the Lord God: On the day that I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the waste places shall be rebuilt. And the land that was desolate shall be tilled, instead of being the desolation that it was in the sight of all who passed by. And they will say, “This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden, and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are now fortified and inhabited.” Then the nations that are left all around you shall know that I am the Lord; I have rebuilt the ruined places and replanted that which was desolate. I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it.
The True and Perfect Gardener Jesus Christ is bringing the Garden back to earth.
The curse of sin and death does not have the last word on God’s creation.
Just like God spoke the Old Heavens and Earth into being by His eternal Word, Jesus Christ, today, He is speaking the New Heavens and New Earth into being by that same Word every single time the gospel is preached.
The Nations belong to Jesus. And His plan is to bring them the blessings of the Kingdom of God so that they might praise His Name.
19-22
Here’s the good news of the Kingdom. The good news Jesus preached.
Through the preaching of the gospel, Jesus will save sinners.
And those sinners will be New Creations. The humble beginnings of the New Heavens and New earth.
Recreated, restored and redeemed to glorify God like he originally created us to.
And as more and more people get saved, as the nations are baptized and discipled through the proclamation of the gospel by the church, the world, as a whole, will be saved.
Sinful individuals, families, cultures, and societies will become godly individuals, families, cultures, and societies.
And every aspect of life, from top to bottom will be consecrated to the Lord.
From every individual thing that we do, to our families, government, science literature, business every aspect of culture and everything in this world will be for the glory of Christ.
In other words, through salvation and the gospel, Jesus is replanting Eden.
