The Resurrection Of Jesus Christ!
Introduction: The resurrection of Jesus Christ is Heaven’s defiant victory over sin, death and the grave. It brings secured comfort to God’s people and demands the proclamation of Jesus’ resurrection.
Why is the resurrection so important? 1 Cor 15:14,17&19. If Christ be not raised
Proof of the Resurrection?
Define Resurrection: The resurrection is a public testimony of Christ’s release from his undertaking as surety, and an evidence of the Father’s acceptance of his work of redemption. It is a victory over death and the grave for all his followers. CORRECTLY CITE SOURCE!
Why did Christ rise from the dead? To visually demonstrate and bring to completion God’s definite purpose of redemption.
Historical Background: These people had left everything, careers, family, respect, and devoted their whole lives to following this Jesus whom they saw as the long awaited messiah. This Jesus who they saw as the messiah had just been murdered, the one they thought would deliver them had been slain by wicked men. Was all of their hope in vain, was he just another man, what was God doing?
The Resurrection:
Heaven’s defiant victory over sin, death and the grave. v2
Rev 1:17-18 , Matt 28:18, Phil 2:9 COMFORT OF JESUS V5&10.
The angel seems to roll the stone away to show Christ’s victory over sin which, a stone that no man could move by himself. But this massive weight which no man could move, Christ rolled away once and for all. Sin no longer bars the way for the believer, all its heavy burden has been rolled away forever. “That great stone seems to represent the sin of all Christ’s people, which shut them up in prison; it can never be laid again over the mouth of the sepulchre of any child of God. Christ has risen, and all his saints must rise, too.” C. H. Spurgeon
The angel rolls the stone away and then sits atop it as to defiantly show heavens victory over sin, death and the grave.
Brings Comfort to God’s people V5 and v10
To heathen people God’s messenger is frightening (v4 “became like dead men”) but to Jesus’ people this frightening being uses his power to speak comfort (v5 But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid”) and Jesus reinforces this comforting remark “Do not be afraid” (v10).
“Do not be afraid” v5and10
“they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him.” v 9
The victory of Christ is secured by his resurrection because it brings our Justification to completion:
Rom 4:25 “raised for our justification.” Christ’s resurrection brings our justification to completion!
We who believe are perfect in the eyes of God, all of Jesus perfect obedience is ours! Jesus views me as He views Christ! “this is my beloved son with whom i am well pleased” “He always did those things which pleased the father”
The resurrection of Jesus offers us new life here and for the future:
Rom 6:4, “Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life” WE COULD NOT WALK IN NEWNESS OF LIFE IF CHRIST WAS NOT RISEN!
Rom 6:8-11 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
