INtroduction

Welcome
Why we celebrate Holy Week
Palm Sunday is not just the beginning of Holy week but it is a reminder of what it means to have a Kingdom Perspective
I was reminded of this last monday night at Tripp’s Tball game
reminded again friday morning with Uncle Ron
IN ORDER TO HAVE A KINGDOM PERSPECTIVE WE MUST KEEP OUR PERSPECTIVE CENTERED AROUND GOSPEL TRUTH.
There is no shortage of perspectives and ideas in our culture. Just love each other. accept one another. Tolerate one another or co exist on many bumper stickers.
How many have had someone come up them recently and say God wants you to ____ or God doesnt _______.
Ok that may sound good and it may be true but I want to have a gospel centered perspective to verify that for myself.
We will see in the passage today that there were a lot of people with a lot of “feelings” but they werent the same feelings as Jesus and His message taught.
Luke 19:28–32 NIV
28 After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29 As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30 “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’ ” 32 Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them.
No notice verse 28 says after jesus had said this...... I cant start with that but I dont have time to day to read it all but let me summarize the parable he Just told
The Ten Minas..... we will come back to this story at the end
We have two disciples who are sent to get a donkey. In their mind they have to be thinking what???? We know this because John tells us that they didnt understand it until it was fulfilled
JESUS IS NOT WHO WE WANT HIM TO BE; JESUS IS GOD
Sometimes we just need to obey his words and stop trying to create a specific Jesus guru in our mind. Thats not our place as servant.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The Lord will sometimes ask us to do things that doesn’t make sense. I can give a lot of examples of this and we know because of the book of John that they didnt understand it......nonetheless they were OBEDIENT
A GOSPEL PERSPECTIVE DOES NOT HAVE TO MEET YOUR PERCEPTION.

33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”

34 They replied, “The Lord needs it.”

35 They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it.

This is an intriguing part of the story right? The disciples go and play Grand Theft Donkey and this is a dangerous thing. This was someones livelihood. This was something that could leave you dead in the street and the disciples obeyed but what about the owners?
This story is one of the stories that is included in all the gospels and we know from Mark that the owners gave permission. I would love to have more of this conversation right?
But what we have of the story is enough to know they just gave up the donkey, maybe it was just a rental I dont know but they gave it up to strangers for the Lord had asked them for it.
Thats further than a lot of people get.
A GOSPEL PERSPECTIVE ALWAYS INVOLVES SACRIFICE

36 As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.

37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” t

“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

This is important to note who these people are praising. Luke calls them a group of disciples. They followed Jesus as he would perform miracles in town to town.
At this point Jesus had been ministering for quite some time and you know the crowds that would follow.
But heres the thing. Not all of those that followed believed. Some were intrigued. Some just wanted what Jesus could do. Believe it or not, some were doubtful and just wanted to see more for themselves.
BUt indeed they started to shout Hosanna. Which means SAVE in Hebrew. Many obviously believed that this was the Messiah that would take down Rome and save them.
It did not take long for this to change. It wouldnt be but just a few more days and those screeming Hosana would scream Crucify. Those laying down palm brances and cloaks would be laying down rocks and shaking their fists.
What changed????? Jesus did not perform what they wanted Him to. He did not fit their mold for their Savior. Instead he would be silent before trial and beaten time and time again and offer only a defense to state Himself as God.
A GOSPEL PERSPECTIVE IS NOT GUIDED BY OUR FEELINGS, RATHER IT IS GUIDED BY OUR FAITH

39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”

40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

41 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”

The pharisees try to instruct Jesus.... Just think about that. And I am will be harsh on them for a moment, because they deserve it ha but Ill come back to us. The pharisees try to catch Jesus and Jesus stays steady.
“Look in the book you know so well, I am the Son of David as the Psalmist prophesied”
We try to instruct Jesus at times and its equally comical
And a perfect response, Even the rocks cry out
Jesus weeps over Jerusalem, HIS OWN PEOPLE, and its almost like He is pleading. If you could just seeeee! If you would just believe!!!!!!!
A GOSPEL PERSPECTIVE ALLOWS US TO VIEW THIS WORLD WITH BOTH COMPASSION AND URGENCY
not hatred and complacency
No more sitting back

Conclusion

Remember that parable from the beginning
Three guys three different perspectives
Hard truth from Jesus SLAUGHTERED before Him
Where type of perspective do you have and is it a GOSPEL PERSPECTIVE
Ask Jesus to give you His perspective. Read His word, Ask Him.
Do you know Jesus
