The Weapon of Wisdom
Strong’s Definition of “counselor”
Strong’s number H3289
יָעַץ
yâ‛ats
yaw-ats'
A primitive root; to advise; reflexively to deliberate or resolve: - advertise, take advice, advise (well), consult, (give take) counsel (-lor), determine, devise, guide, to provide purpose.
We are living with a lack of knowledge
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: Because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: Seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
Destroyed = to be brought to silence or to be dumb, where they cannot speak, because of a lack of knowledge.
Knowledge - Skillful, cunning, to advise. The reason we lack knowledge is because we’ve rejected knowledge.
Reject - Means to “spurn, to despise, to abhor, or to cast away” to loathe and refuse
We haven’t sought God for the answers that people are facing
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
There is power in the word, there is power in Christ - We must find the answers in the book
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
What an amazing promise
God has all the wisdom we need and He will give to all men
All who want he will not rebuke or make fun of
Do we believe God has all the answers
Double mindedness
We have Biblical answers in some answers but we don’t seek it in others.
Why don’t Christians have the answers
1 Blessed is the man That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: But the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
Study to find answers
8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
There are unbiblical philosophies in churches
15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
Earthly -
Sensual -
Devilish -
Wisdom from above - God will give the answer for any problem we are facing
There is a curse for seeking worldly and demonic wisdom
13 So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the Lord, even against the word of the Lord, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it;
14 And inquired not of the Lord: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
Saul lost his kingdom because he sought the answer in the wrong place
leadership gone because he didn’t ask God
Ask God for wisdom
11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
98 Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: For they are ever with me.
As i’m in the word of God, God will make us wiser than our enemy - We can go to God to get the wisdom for the battle
Wisdom is a weapon
3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
There are so many things
Mighty = forceful truth
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
We need to seek God for His wisdom - it is available
2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
We can learn from other people, but God has made available His power of wisdom
3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
His word - His Spirit is given everything we need
His divine nature guiding us
There is a weapon available to help people
18 Open thou mine eyes, That I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.
There is so much God wants to reveal to us
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
If - conditional
To saved Christians
We will be free and be able to make others free
We are to be growing in the knowledge and wisdom of God
No one could ever exhaust all of God’s wisdom
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
He wants to guide you - for your need and even for another’s need that he wants you to help them
The Spirit goes to Jesus, Jesus receives from the Father, Jesus gives to the Spirit, and the Spirit gives to you
Ever situation, circumstance, doubt, fear, need
16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Spirit of wisdom was the Apostle Paul’s prayer request
show me your knowledge, wisdom
We need a spirit of wisdom
“The eyes of your understanding being enlightened”
We need to see into the things of God in a deeper way
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Don’t settle for sending people away without help
People can get help at church
Take the Bible to study the answer
Ask the Lord for wisdom to help others
How would God feel if you went to Him for answers
We have a God that has all the answers to every problem and every question that we could fathom.

Truth: Jesus “is the way, the truth, and the life”. All that is truth is defined by the very character, nature, and words of Truth incarnate, The Lord Jesus Christ.
Knowledge is the ability to understand and appropriate truth. Knowledge gives us the ability to skillfully apply truth to our individual circumstances.
