Luke 19:28-44
Luke 19:28-44
Simeon comes to mind, when looking to the praise of the people in Jerusalem!
Luke 2:28-30 “Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart In peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,”
Prophets, priests, and many people were looking for the Deliverer, sent by God, to save them. This looking turned different over time.......
When Jesus entered Jerusalem, many things have happened. Jesus has raised Lazarus from the dead after being dead 4 days. Many miracles were done alone by Jesus........so much teaching........the signs were undeniable! So when Jesus entered Jerusalem there was an uproar by the crowd! The first time that Jesus allowed such worship of Himself.
There is a prophecy in the book of Psalm....Psalm 118:22-26 “The stone which the builders refused Is become the head stone of the corner. This is the Lord’s doing; It is marvellous in our eyes. This is the day which the Lord hath made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. Save now, I beseech thee, O Lord: O Lord, I beseech thee, send now prosperity. Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord: We have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.”
This passage speaks of this day..........not of any other day.....but this day is when Jesus entered Jerusalem, the Holy city, to save the world from their sins!
This day, as we read Wed. in John 18, Jesus went forth to save us!!
Some theologians, scholars, and commentators believed this day was pinpointed when Gabriel come to Daniel. (Daniel 9) Gabriel would tell Daniel of 70 weeks, which is supposed to mean 70 weeks of years and then Gabriel spoke of 7 weeks and 62 weeks, which would be 69 weeks of years.
In ancient Hebrew weeks means a group of 7. In reference to what Gabriel is speaking of 69 7 year periods. I have to tell you that a lot of this hard for a man that is mathematically challenged.
Sir Robert Anderson in his book The Coming Prince figured this up using the Jewish calendar (360 days in a year), and it points to Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. This is based on Gabriel’s message to Daniel.
So, from the mark of rebuilding Jerusalem and the temple, written by Nehemiah and Ezra and figuring from there, this entry was told to Daniel by Gabriel.
Daniel 9:25-26 “Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.”
Cut-off would mean killed.....not for Himself.......
The people celebrated Jesus’ entrance but not for what He actually came to do!
They overlooked Isaiah 53 and many other prophecies that tells of Jesus being “cut-off”, “bruised”.....Jesus, God’s Son, The Son of Man (Messiah), would be killed (bear our sins punishment) so that we might live.
This day, to them, wasn’t about their sin against God, it was about their deliverance from evil men.
Sound familiar?
You did not know the time of your visitation!
It was Passover.....during Passover they celebrated the liberation of Israel from evil Pharoah and Egyptians.........during this week long celebration, the sacrificed lambs for the sins of the people......
On this day Jesus entered Jerusalem, to be the sacrificial lamb Hebrews 10:10-12 “By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;”
So many signs that these at this time missed, this caused Jesus to weep.......
If you have known, at least in this day......all the prophecies led you to this point...........the things which belong to your peace......but now they are hid from your eyes!!!
Hid, how, why???? 2 Corinthians 4:4 “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
Satan has blinded people’s eyes by his distractions of this world. We get so caught up in the goings on of this world, it is easy to get caught off guard.
Just take the events of the last couple of years......we have been taken a roller coaster ride of uncertainty! All the while, Jesus has overcome the world......1 John 5:5 “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?”......... John 16:33 “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 6:2 “(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)”
Do not miss this, this triumphant entry led to Jesus to the cross......It also leads us to the cross, where Jesus gave His life to die for the sins of the world......John 1:29 “The next day John the Baptist seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
This is still for us today, don’t miss it! Don’t miss the glory of Jesus Christ because you are looking at your situation and trouble!
In verse 44, some believe, Jesus is speaking of the destruction of the temple and Jerusalem in AD 70. I believe He is too.....but we also can rightly apply this to all of the earth......2 Peter 3:10 “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”
All the kingdoms that we have built will be destroyed........The Lord God has given us One foundation to build on and the is Jesus the Christ, the Son of the Living God!
2 Corinthians 12:9 “And Jesus said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
Do not miss the time of His visitation by building your own kingdoms....whatever they may be.....don’t let your children miss it because you are putting more emphasis on the worldly status than our Heavenly!
The day that Jesus entered Jerusalem was the day that Jesus opened Himself up to be crucified for the world’s sin......He made Himself our Mediator between God and us.......This day, onto His crucifixion, resurrection is just as much alive and powerful now as it was then.........do not miss the time of His visitation believe and have life in the name of Jesus Christ the Son of God!
This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.....Save us now!!!!
