There is a New Day Coming. Jesus Demonstrated His Sacrifice and Our Salvation in the Last Supper.

If I was having a last supper, I would not eat crackers, not even Town House or Ritz crackers. I would want leavened bread.
Celebrating our sons birthday, “Do you want to eat anywhere special? “Roadhouse!” was the reply. I ate too many of those yeast rolls.
REWIND THE CLOCK WITH ME about 2000 years into History. Here is a brief review of this weeks events 2000 years ago.
Palm Sunday
Matthew 21:1–11 (KJV 1900)
And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples, Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.
And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them. All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.
And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them, And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon. And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

THERE IS A NEW DAY COMING!

THREE OBSERVATIONS OF A NEW DAY!

A New Sacrifice. 26-28

Exodus 12:1–13 (KJV 1900)
And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you. Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.
And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire. And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the Lord’s passover.
For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
After 400 years in slavery, God says, it’s time to go. I have a new land for you…
The “Beginning of Months” for the Hebrews was the start of their NEW YEAR. Nisan (Babylonian name) Abib (Canaanite name) is our March/April.
To start the year, they observed Passover, offering sacrifices to the Lord in celebration of His delivering them!
The Hebrew Sacrifices were Yearly, Quarterly, Monthly, Daily. “All the time” - because of sin.
Every sacrifice was a picture of the Ultimate Sacrifice, the Perfect Lamb of God.
After the Sacrifice of Jesus, sacrifices are no longer needed.
Hebrews 10:10 KJV 1900
By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Death and the curse were in that cup,
O Christ, ‘twas full for Thee;
But Thou hast drained the last dark dregs,
’Tis empty now for me.
John writes, “… he (Jesus) went forth with His disciples over the ravine of the Kidron” (John 18:1). A drain ran from the temple altar down to the Kidron ravine to take away the blood of sacrifice. Since it was the Passover, more than 200,000 lambs would be slain in the next day. When Jesus and His band crossed the Kidron, it was red with the blood of the lambs prepared for sacrifice.
Josephus, in History, says around 2 million people gathered in Jerusalem, in AD. 33, the day Jesus died…
For some of the Hebrew offerings, the priests would stand knee deep in blood with some reports of 1 million animals sacrificed for SIN…
A New Sacrifice.

A New Testament. 28a

The Greek word, generally meaning “last will and testament,” contains certain legal characteristics which have important theological implications. First, a testament was not an agreement between parties (especially equals), but rather was exercised solely by the testator. Second, the testament became effective upon the death of the testator. Third, the testament was irrevocable.

When the OT was translated into Greek, the translators had the option of two words to translate the Hebrew word for covenant. One term carries the idea of a mutual agreement and this often between equals. Since this would blur the divine initiative in God’s covenantal dealings with the patriarchs and with Israel, the other word was used. It connoted the self-determined action of the sovereign in making the covenant. The NT writers saw in the word testament an additional significance. As a testament became valid at the death of the testator, the benefits of the new covenant have come to believers after the crucifixion and the death of the Christ

SOMEONE HAS TO PAY. SOMEONE HAS TO DIE.
Romans 6:23 KJV 1900
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
It was your sin, my sin, our sin…. We deserve death…
The Testament only went into effect once the Testator DIED!
11 / 12 verses in the NT “Testament” is found and each time it is dealing with the Death of Jesus - enabling the New Covenant/Testament.
Hebrews 9:15 KJV 1900
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
Old Testament:
Law. DO.
Multiple Sacrifices.
New Testament:
Grace. DONE.
One Sacrifice.
All the New Testament is about this NEW Covenant of God with Humanity. All the OLD TESTAMENT pointed to the NEED of a NEW TESTAMENT.
A New Sacrifice.
A New Testament.

A New Future. 29

Jesus directs the attention of His disciples to the Future of a time with them in Heaven. There will be a reunion for all of those “IN JESUS.”
His disciples will be reunited with Him in the Millennial Kingdom. This is a Kingdom that co-joins Heaven and Earth and lasts 1000 years before everything moves to Eternity.
He says they will drink “new” wine. Fresh juice from the Vine is what he is speaking about.

In our Lord’s expression, “drink it new,” the idea of quality is dominant. All the elements of festivity in the heavenly kingdom will be of a new and higher quality.

The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Twenty-Three: The King’s Preparation (Matthew 26:1–56)

In Matthew 26:29, Jesus added the note of future glory in the kingdom. Jesus did eat bread, fish, and honey after His resurrection (Luke 24:41–43; John 21:9–15). But there is no record that He drank the fruit of the vine. Even as He faced the rejection of His nation and the suffering of the cross, He was looking ahead to the kingdom that would be established because of His sacrifice. There were traditionally four cups drunk at the Passover feast, each cup relating to one of the four promises in Exodus 6:6–7. Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper between the third and fourth cups.

Exodus 6:6–8 KJV 1900
Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments: And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the Lord your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the Lord.
The four cups of Passover are an integral part of the Passover celebration. They stand for each of the four promises the Lord makes to His people in Exodus 6:6-7. (Chosen People Ministries)
The Cup of Sanctification
“I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.”
The Cup of Deliverance
“I will rescue (rid) you from their bondage.”
The Cup of Redemption
“I will redeem you with an outstretched arm.”
The Cup of Praise
“I will take you as My people.”
Exodus 6:8 KJV 1900
And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the Lord.
WHERE DOES GOD PROMISE TO DELIVER THE PEOPLE TO? Verse 8 - “The Land.”
The Christian Anticipates the FUTURE in the “Land of Heaven” being with God IN-PERSON!
Eating the bread and drinking the juice does not make a person a Christian. “Receiving Communion” does not guarantee Heaven.
The Only Way of salvation is to believe Jesus paid for your sin by shedding His blood and dying on the Cross and BELIEVING He Rose Again.
Do You Have a Future with Jesus in Heaven?
Do you have an eternity guaranteed by God?
CONCLUSION:
We are “Reenacting” what Jesus “Enacted” at the Last Supper. Communion, fellowship with God.
Jesus anticipated and prophesied His sacrifice, We look back and rejoice and solemnly express gratitude for His sacrifice.
