Luke 19:29–40 KJV 1900
And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither. And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him. And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them. And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? And they said, The Lord hath need of him. And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon. And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way. And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

Pre-Sermon Ice Breaker

A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and asked his father as to when they could discuss his use of the car.
His father said he’d make a deal with his son, “You bring your grades up from a C to a B Average, study your Bible a little and get your hair cut. Then we’ll talk about the car.” The boy thought about that for a moment, decided he’d settle for the offer and they agreed on it.
After about six weeks his father said, “Son, you’ve brought your grades up and I’ve observed that you have been studying the Bible, but I’m disappointed, you haven’t had your hair cut.
The boy said, “You know, Dad, I’ve been thinking about it, and I’ve noticed in my studies of the Bible that Samson had long hair, John the Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair, and even Jesus had long hair.”
The father responded. “Did you also notice that they all walked everywhere they went?”

Introduction

Jesus walked everywhere he went except on Palm Sunday. On this day Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a Donkey colt. Palm Sunday marks a seminal moment in Jesus Ministry. This was the moment when everything changes, from this point on there is no turning back.
It is such an important event that each of the Gospel writers includes Palm Sunday in their narrative. Last year I spoke to you from Matthew, Chapter 21. Today our message is from Luke 19.
Up until this point Jesus has been cautious about revealing that he is the Messiah, but from this point forward he makes it clear in all he says and does. Everything in this Passion or Holy week leads straight to the Crucifixion, straight to the cross.
In 2022 we have explored a variety of themes. Last Sunday we looked at Prayer. Today we return to the theme of “Worship.” In Jesus Triumphal Entry we learn several lessons about Worship that will help us to be better Worshipers of God. Let’s look at it together.

Body

Lesson 1 - Preparing for Worship - vs. 29-35

Jesus sends two disciples to find a colt for him to ride.
Zechariah 9:9 KJV 1900
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: Behold, thy King cometh unto thee: He is just, and having salvation; Lowly, and riding upon an ass, And upon a colt the foal of an ass.
Proverbs 24:27 KJV 1900
Prepare thy work without, And make it fit for thyself in the field; And afterwards build thine house.
1 Peter 3:15 KJV 1900
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
Ephesians 2:10 KJV 1900
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

II. Lesson 2 - Giving is Worship - vs. 36

Matthew 21:8 KJV 1900
And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way.
Only other time in Scripture
2 Kings 9:13 KJV 1900
Then they hasted, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew with trumpets, saying, Jehu is king.
Often times we think of giving today only in terms of money. While money is certainly one way that we give. Worship includes this and more. They took whatever they had, whatever they could get their hands on to honor and glorify God.

III. Lesson 3 - The Reason for Worship - vs. 37

All the Mighty Works they had seen!
Mark 2:12 KJV 1900
And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
Matthew 15:31 KJV 1900
Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.
The greatest work God has done is the saving of our soul.
1 Peter 2:9 KJV 1900
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

IV. Lesson 4 - The Message of Worship - vs. 38

God’s Name
Acts 4:12 KJV 1900
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Philippians 2:9–11 KJV 1900
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Psalm 103:1–4 KJV 1900
Bless the Lord, O my soul: And all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; Who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
Peace in Heaven
Romans 5:1 KJV 1900
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Philippians 4:7 KJV 1900
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Glory to God
Psalm 29:1 KJV 1900
Give unto the Lord, O ye mighty, Give unto the Lord glory and strength.

V. Lesson 5 - Who should Worship? - vs. 40

Luke 19:40 KJV 1900
And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.
1 Peter 2:5 KJV 1900
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
We should worship! We don’t need a rock to worship for us, We ar lively stones ready to worship Him.
