Introduction

Purpose of the Gospel of John

John 20:31 NKJV
but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
This verse matches up with John 3.16 so well.
John 3:16 NKJV
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Jesus wants all to believe and be saved

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.

We can lead people to God but it is up to them to believe.

John 4 Shows us the duality of Jesus.

As a man He was weary and thirsty

As the Christ He shows His Deity and Omniscience

3 Instances of Jesus Witnessed by Others

John the Gospel Writer Shows Him as the Son of God
John the Baptist has presented Christ as the Messiah
Peter confesses Him as Christ the Messiah
Uniquely Jesus confesses himself in verse 26
John 4:25 NKJV
The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.”
John 4:26 NKJV
Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

Jesus did not tell the religious establishment but told an outcast.

Romans 10:8 NKJV
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach):
Romans 10:9 NKJV
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 6:1 NKJV
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?
Romans 6:2 NKJV
Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?
Romans 6:3 NKJV
Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
Romans 6:4 NKJV
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Romans 6:5 NKJV
For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection,
The Woman is from Samiria

The Condescension

John 4:7 NKJV
A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.”

Who Are The Samaritans?

Samaria was the name of the capital city of the Northern Kingdom
The Kingdoms split after Solomon who was the last king of the Unified Kingdom
The 12 tribes split and ten went north and the other two stayed south.
The South was Judah
The North was basically Israel
When the Evil King Omri took over he identified the entire area as Samaria according to 1 Kings 16
John 4:8 NKJV
For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
John 4:9 NKJV
Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
When Assyria captures the northern kingdom in 720-722 B.C. and transports everybody out into captivity.
The Assyrians left a few people and the Babylonians and others came in with their pagan gods, they intermingles, and they lost their racial purity.
They concoct their own bizarre religion and build a temple on Mount Gerizim.
A renegade Jew by the name of Manessah married the daughter of an evil Samaritan Sanballat.
Manessah built a temple because they could not be a part of the temple being built in jerusalem.

Who is the Samaritan Woman: Facts

Notice: She Came to the Well at noon when the day started at 6am, why?
Being the kind of woman she was she more than likely was scorned by many!
She had went through five husbands
She was living in adultery.
The Samaritans only went by the first 5 books of the Bible and she is definitely breaking everything to do with adultery.
Everyone normally came at dusk according to historical records but here she comes at noon

But there are no coincidences with God!

The Mercy

John 4:10 NKJV
Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”
John 4:12 NKJV
Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”

The Grace

John 4:13 NKJV
Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again,
John 4:14 NKJV
but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
John 4:16 NKJV
Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”
John 4:16 NKJV
Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”
John 4:17 NKJV
The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’
John 4:18 NKJV
for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.”

Knowing Who Jesus is is Important

John 4:19 NKJV
The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.

Knowing The Truth Sets Us Free

John 4:20 NKJV
Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.”

What Mount is she talking about?

Probably Modern Askar
Deuteronomy 11:26–29 NKJV
“Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse: the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you today; and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known. Now it shall be, when the Lord your God has brought you into the land which you go to possess, that you shall put the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.
The Samaritans going by the Pentateuch setup on Mt. Gerizim
Meanwhile the Scriptures Authenticated Jerusalem as the place of Worship und David!
2 Chronicles 6:6 NKJV
Yet I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’
John 4:21 NKJV
Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.
John 4:22 NKJV
You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews.
True Worshippers are recognized by the way they worship
The promise was to the Jews and not the Samaritans
John 4:23 NKJV
But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.
John 4:24 NKJV
God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
John 4:25 NKJV
The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.”
John 4:26 NKJV
Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”
