Philippians 2:12-13 • Command – “work out your own salvation” Philippians 2:12-13 • Not “works” salvation • Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Philippians 2:12-13 • Not “works” salvation • Romans 4:5 – And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness. Philippians 2:12-13 • Theological Explanation – “for it is God who works in you” Both “human” and “divine” working Psalm 127:1 Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. Both “human” and “divine” working I Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.
