For Holy Week
so what is it that she has done, and do we tell of it along with the gospel?
One of the things we are seeing as we go through Ezekiel is to read carefully and consider the entire text and the world at the time the story occured and was written.
This story is an example.
In history we call something historiography, other fields call it a literature review… so the first thing is to look at the text, maybe find other translations, early sources and see how things are built.
Look at the authors entire worldview and how that might influence their writing especially this side of the Enlightenment and in the Modern Era.
So. let’s read the section...
Questions we should ask
Ointment or perfume or… alabaster is expensive...
symbolism of the anointing
Why is it a beautiful thing?
Is it just about the burial?
What might we be missing?
True ointment, or perfume of the time
based in oil
so when seized
tried cursed
scourged
marched
crucified
We can minister to Jesus by our sacrifice and love
He remember he was loved and why he was doing these things.... carried him through it.
