The 50 Most Important Teachings of The Bible: What They Mean for You

Jesus Was a Man, but Much More Than a Man

John 1:1–2 ESV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.
John 1:14 ESV
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Luke 1:30–32 ESV
30 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David,
Luke 1:35 ESV
35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.
Philippians 2:5–8 ESV
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Who is the greatest single figure that the world has ever produced?
The Jews would say Abraham or Moses. Muslims would say Mohammed. Buddhists would say Buddha. The Chinese might say Confucius. But without a doubt, the greatest person who has ever lived was Jesus
Why is that so? What sets Him apart from any other person in all history?

without a doubt, the greatest person who has ever lived was Jesus.
That’s remarkable when you consider:
He didn’t write a book during His time on Earth.
He never traveled more than a relatively short distance from His birthplace.
He never had more than a few followers during His ministry.
The Bible tells us Jesus was more than a man—much more.
Let’s see what it says:Jesus existed prior to coming to Earth.
God has no beginning and no end. He has always existed; otherwise, He could not be God.
The Bible repeatedly and without explanation states that Jesus is God.
Therefore, He had to have existed prior to coming to Earth.
At the beginning of the Gospel of John, we read this: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning” (John 1:1).
When John spoke of “the Word,” he was speaking of Jesus, the eternal Son of God who existed with God the Father before time began.
Then John made this astounding statement: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (verse 14).

GOD BECAME MAN!!!

Jesus took upon Himself full humanity and lived as a man, but at the same time, He never ceased to be the eternal God who has always existed, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, the source of eternal life.
John 20:30–31 ESV
30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Jesus is:

Both human and divine
The perfect “man”
Jesus all did the right thing
The perfect Teacher
His words are forever true
The perfect example
who “came from the Father, [was] full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). He is a model of how you are to live. He took on “the very nature of a servant” (Philippians 2:8).
How does God want you to live? Look to Jesus!
The perfect sacrifice
Because Jesus was perfect, He could die as the perfect sacrifice for all sin.
God is holy and cannot accept sin in His presence. O
Only a perfect sacrifice would be acceptable for cleansing us of sin. Jesus’ death fully satisfied the Father’s
Jesus is the Savior of the World
Matthew 1:21 ESV
21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
Jesus not only created the world, He also became the Savior of the World.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR US?

Jesus expects us to live for him
If Jesus is your Savior, you are no longer alone, for He now lives in you.
He is your power for living and your hope for the future.
His Spirit living in you empowers you moment by moment to follow in Jesus’ footsteps.
Jesus told His disciples that if they loved Him, they would keep His commandments.
Living for Jesus means you willingly choose to follow His commands.
Do you know which of those commands he is talking about?
Living for Jesus requires a willful effort on your part. The resources are available to you. Are you ready for the challenge?
